How to turn off the developer console

So I accidentally hit the tilde (`) key and I cant find a way to make it go away once its been activated without exiting the game.

Anyone know how to make it disappear?

I'm having the same issue. Always hit it if I want to push TAB. Besides a restart of the game I found nothing that works.

Late answer but I had the same issue - with a twist. The console seems to be triggered by a different key depending on your keyboard layout. For my German layout, the console is triggered by '#'.
Some nice person on the Star Control Discord (thanks Tarp!) gave me the hint of pressing ESC and then the key again. This does not work for German layout BUT if you switch to English, ESC followed by tilde (`) closes the console.

TL;DR
Press ESC and then tilde to close the console
You need to switch your keyboard layout to English for this to work (can be done while in the game)

Still looking for a working answer. My ~ and Home keys both activate the dev console, pressing Esc or clicking off the box gives me control of the game again (no cursor in the dev console) but pressing ~ or Home key just reactivates the cursor in the console. Sometimes it takes a second press to activate but it never turns it off.

Any other ideas?

Just stumbled upon the dev console when trying to use “Home” for its normal purpose, i. e. going to the text box’s beginning. Thankfully using the tilde key after ESCaping out of the console box works.

Escape, followed by Tilde again usually works for me.

This is still an intermittent issue. I will accidentally hit tilde instead of tab. Usually it will close again with tilde, but sometimes (maybe if I accidentally type something in the debug like a second tilde), it will not close. Escape takes focus away from the console but any typing brings it back.
