Will we get to meet any of the classic races?
Besides humans, naturally.

No. When Stardock first acquired the rights to Star Control from Atari, Paul and Fred asked us not to use the aliens as they hoped to one-day return to continue the Ur-Quan story.

In addition, it would be really hard for us to continue a story from 25 years ago where new players would be expected to either play the DOS game or download the Ur-Quan Masters. Alternatively, if we tried to re-tell the Ur-Quan story that wouldn't make sense since the Ur-Quan Masters HD game is out there (for fre). If we tried to put our own spin on the Ur-Quan story (i.e. a reboot of the story itself) that would alienate fans without any benefit to new players.

Apparently Stardock is making this sequel without the storyline of the clasic star control universe. However, Fred Ford and Paul Reiche (the original developers of SC2) ARE continuing the story in a sequel called Ghosts of the Precursors - because Stardock owns the rights to the Star Control name.

So while both games are interesting, if you're interested in a continuation of the Star Control 2 story, this isn't the one to provide that. Ghosts of the Precursors is not as far in development and has just been announced, and you can follow it here: https://dogarandkazon.squarespace.com

I'm kinda hoping for a equivalent to the Androsynth in this game as a antagonist faction. The idea of human clones that roam the galaxy that freed themselves from servatude is neat.

It isn't a prequel. The story will take place in separate universe from the Ur-Quan one.
