Must admit it is rather slow going from the start, as far as travel times/movement goes but it does get better.
2. As to the boring resources stuff: I used Cheat Engine to get unlimited RUs and so could skip almost all of the grind. :)
Most of the interesting things are in the Steam\steamapps\common\Star Control - Origins\Assets\Ships\ShipComponents.xml file. Just open it with Notepad, or better notepad++. Make a copy of the file first.
Or you can just simply mod to win the game and see the credits roll!
You know even with all those cheats, the skill based part of the game (ship combat) is still just as difficult. Honestly most of the stuff you can buy doesn't give you that much an advantage in that.
Most of the ships you can buy are really poor and you mostly rely on putting a good weapon on your main ship anyway.
I know my tastes have changed a bit over the years too. I tried to play SC2 and didn't like it, but this one is working for me. Hard to explain why other than tastes.
Yea the engine and drive increases don't seem to be helping me much either since 25% of slow is still going to be slow. They do stack though, so who knows, maybe with enough money and stacking.
Same here.. made changes to the file but the cost were still the same. Restarted the game a few times too and didn't work.
Also another approach to going around quickly within a solar system is to actually escape out to Hyperspace, and then maneuver around outside the solar system and then re-enter the solar system near a planet.
