Having said that, once I'm in-game, there are very little loading screens, and I'm generally happy with the performance.
IMHO: don't refund - the game is too good. I had a perma-smile last might as I played, long into the night lol...
That said; good to hear that the game is good.

Devs are very active on these boards, it seems - always a good sign :)
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
I would like you guys to take a look at this thread as I have been working with 2 others with similar reports. My last post deals with seeing if AV / Window's Defender may also be a culprit.

I think that not taking this potential problem into account when building the game is more likely the villain, here.
I would like to have you try excluding the folders that SC:O uses from Windows Defender. If you use another AV product, please use the folders provided to perform a like action.
Go here to see how to exclude:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028485/windows-10-add-an-exclusion-to-windows-defender-antivirus
The folders to exclude would be:
\Documents\My Games\Star Control
\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Control - Origins
Please let me know if this improves your load times.
Thanks for your patience here.

If anything, it made things worse; seems like the game is actually taking longer to load.
RocketGrrl, what kind of load times are you seeing for:
-Game load
-Save load
-What type of physical storage (SSD or HDD)
-RAM
Thanks.

Thank you, it helped me a lot
From 3 mins to load a game, and 3 mins for first time to load a save, now it takes several seconds.
