Steel Mills work just on Iron blocks?

Do steel mills work if you put them on Iron and don't collect or buy any iron yourself? Or do they require a source of iron whether from a metal works or from buying off the market?

If you got the tech or right faction you can build directly the facilities ontop of the ressources , so they mine them directly for reprodcuing, like steelmine on top of iron.
But you have to be e.g. scnientific faction to have it from start or get the right tech soon to have it on another faction.

If you play with the scientist, you can build it on top of the iron ressource and it'll work.

For other, you need :
- a metal mine connected to wherever your steel mill is, for example a metal mine just next to the steel mill works, or you can put any building in the building it'll also work
- else your steel mill needs to be connected to where your stock of iron goes to. Usually your headquarters or any headquarters you've bought.
