Campaign mission debt confusion

I just recently returned to the game after a long hiatus and decided to try the campaign (on mars, don't have the dlc:s yet).

I was pleasantly surprised by how fleshed out and interesting that game mode is now :).

Anyway, one thing confuses me. On a couple of the buy colony parts missions I ended up accruing massive amounts of debt, but still did really well getting the "exclusive trade agreement". Then when I was out in the meta game, that debt seemed to have vanished. and it was just pure upside that I got great income from that colony.

That seems a bit broken to me. I mean, it means that you can basicly ignore electricity and fuel costs and just focus on pure short term income, with the only drawback being that you can't use the black market. Am I missing something, is there a drawback I didn't notice?

Your debt is automatically paid at the beginning of each round, immediately after you receive income for that week. Likely what is happening here is your cash + income are higher than your debt, so you always see your debt as being 0. This number will only be non-zero if you do not have enough cash on hand after income to pay it down.

Oh, cool, so the debt from the mission does carry over to the metagame. That's very interesting, and good to know, thanks :).

Cash will carry over. In addition, all resource stockpiles are sold at the moment the round ends (even buildings are scrapped for resources if you have nanotech). So every last move you make will have an impact, and it can be important to balance holding on to some cash now against investing in the colony for greater long term income.

I am late to the game sorry but I think it's still relevant
I also have the same observation

debt doesn't mean anything except it lowers your stock value. But does that affect anything in campaign mode?

I didn't know that supplying the colony more than what I need to win the week would be even better. Instead of supplying the colony I paid my debt in the last day. Huge mistake!

Hopefully some experienced player will give us more tips.

Ok now I realized that the debt is carried out to the main planet map. too much debt you'll not be able to hire new staff.
