It would be amusing if the AI now knows how to use holograms to hide them for as far as i was aware the AI just basically never figured those out.
HQ type wouldnt matter although scientist springs to mind as most likely, although scavengers are potentially able to get one up pretty fast.
So to answer your question, we've seen this particular "cheat" before but we've never been given decisive evidence as there are some answers to it such as the hologram. Until we've been given a replay file, it remains inconclusive.
patents are also auctioned off, that's another way
In single player games, holograms are not an option
In multiplayer, the bot might have used a hologram on its patent lab? or they bought a hologram in an auction and then hid its patent lab? In Soren's talk, he purposefully made the AIs not use holograms to prevent players from complaining something like this, at least in single player games.
AIs don't cheat in this game. If you ever think that they are cheating, you can load the replay and observe closely at what they did.
i dont even think it was available in the black market.
