Why own a truck and trailer?
I have played this game for years, but have just recently come back to it after about a year. I deleted my main so I could start from scratch with a used vehicle. I like being able to own a truck after only 2 levels, but I am wondering why I would want to since the Quick Jobs always has better paying runs, and I don't pay for fuel or trailer/truck repairs.
I have kept the tiny garage and my used Mack keeps getting more and more upgrades, but it is basically a garage queen as it doesn't pay enough to make it worth it. I bought a chip van (I'm currently only level 10, so no reefer for me yet) and even with my own truck and trailer, the payout is not up to a quick job payout. Obviously, I have to check all the cities I have discovered to get the highest payout, but it surprises me that I can always find one that pays more. Since I got the $400k loan from the bank to buy a 3 truck garage in Fresno and buy a second used truck for my currently one employee I need the money.
I hate taking runs to California due to their 55 mph speed limit for trucks, but I live in Fresno IRL, so I had to buy a garage there. LOL I have my tiny garage in Moab Utah because I like Utah's license plate design. And the surrounding states let me do 80 mph if I can ever get it up there without slower traffic, road construction, or the ever present weigh stations slowing me down.
I do remember years back making a character and having her do quick job work all the way up to level 12 where she was finally able to get a decent engine and chassis/cab. With the new used truck feature she can get a truck and trailer earlier which is nice, but seems a moot point with quick jobs paying better.

You owning a truck is literally setting you free do drive wherever you want when you want to.
Besides money becomes meaningless in this game very quickly.

As Wolfgang said, to do any job I want, when I want. Or no job at all. I can just drive around.

And even though money is pointless five minutes after you start the game, owning your own equipment does pay more.

I am a little confused. When I check Quick Jobs compared to Freight Market Jobs using my own truck always pays more for the exact same job.

I can never find the exact same job, I just look for the one that pays more. And you are right, eventually I will have so much money it won't matter, but right now I want to pay off that huge loan. Being able to take whatever job, and driver wherever I want does make a difference I have to admit. And there is something about owning your own truck and trailer. Still, from a pure monetary standpoint, it makes sense to do quick jobs.

After a few thousand hours in the drivers seat with "constant" fiddling to get the position and mirrors just right, the steering, speed, brakes and anything else that can be changed "just so" i know my owned trucks like my real life car.
I know exactly where the limits are, when and where i need to turn, what i can or cannot do. It does not matter if i hump along in a 60 hour WoT trip at 90 km/h in my 2014 VNL or drive my 389 in 350 km/h on a "drive it like you stole it" run for a couple of hours, it is just as comfortable and it feels like working for me in something i actually own.

If i do a quick job, it`s just the opposite, working for someone in a "borrowed" truck that is set up for someone else, so to me owning them is absolutely worth it.

I cant play the ATS without realism mods. The game make sence with them and its another level of a gameplay. Vanila is just trash. Try every single mod which adds realism to your game and you will absolutely love it, trust me.

personally, I like to buy a truck but use a trailer that is not mine, for more variety and having the liveries on the trailer

I think that would be better than buying a lot of trailers, just use my truck and some else's trailer.

Which is strange because the Freight Market and Quick Jobs lists are identical bar the revenue earned (and cosmetically the fact that the latter displays the truck image rather than the trailer).

Once you can afford to buy a truck then from the bank account POV it is better to buy your own truck and use it because the revenue is a third higher and therefore you pay the cost of the truck off fairly quickly. From a game time spent per virtual dollar earned perspective then Quick Jobs might be better but otherwise owning a truck is the way to go.

I prefer to own my own truck because the mirrors and seat position are set exactly where I want them and the truck has my preferred running gear.

Driving a truck and trailer combo rocking the same livery looks so slick, and triggers the happy sensors on my tiny brain. All else is secondary.

Owning a trailer doubles your parking practice because you have to park your trailer for loading and unloading.

I own 3 trucks and have 3 trailers along with 2 hired drivers making me money.Life is good.

It's been my experience that owning a truck offers better paying jobs than quick jobs, not the other way around as the OP mentioned. Is the OP using mods? I'm running a vanilla profile that never used mods.
