What's the appeal in these sims?
Not trying to be a downer or anything, but what do people see in these games that I don't? If you are extremely passionate about trucks and truck driving then why not just become a truck driver in real life?

Perhaps some people cannot pass the physical, perhaps they are disabled and enjoy the game, perhaps they dont' want to deal with in real life.

I loved these games. They are relexing and fun.

My question to you is what makes shooetes like COD and Black Ops fun, why do those appeal to so many? Perhaps those people should go join the armed forces so they can go shoot people in real life as well.

The freedom to go wherever you want, to customize your truck, to take in the detailed scenery, to haul goods to the best of your ability, and to enjoy what's around you. Even listen to the radio by pressing 'R" if you so desire.

People said they also felt at peace when trucking in this game because you're not shooting anybody, nor are you being stressed out by over-complex puzzles in Japanese games using the RNG system (Random number generator). It's just you, your truck, the cargo, & the road. Go exploring! :D

It seems that people like the relaxing / exploring factor of the game more than the actual "trucking", makes sense I guess :P

This game is for people who don't want or cannot become real truck drivers for some reason.

Yup, there's that. I used to love driving around in my Volvo in ETS2 taking in the scenery until my computer crapped out. Needing to get a computer with my new one being 90% acquired. Waiting on my new one to play both ETS2 & ATS. I wanted to see SCS take advantage of Bratislava area yet was disappointed when they didn't make use of that 'UFO Bridge' (AKA 'Most SNP) with you stuck on the outskirts of Bratislava only looking at a painting T_T.

I used ETS2 as a way to explore the scenery, to customize my truck, and to just truck around happily by making progress. It's peaceful & fun :)

I find it relaxing .... usually, unless there is a idiot AI attempting to troll me into road rage.
I like the sound of the truck engines and the feeling of a long old school 'Sunday drive' back
when people actually used to go out to drive for the joy of it...this was long before the era
of huge metro traffic jams...... think country driving.

So I find mods that alter truck engine sounds for more rumble and low end reverb that
make my sub woofer come to life (corsair speaker system) .. with a wheel system to navigate
etc.. it resembles driving fairly well.

Now, is it exciting. F no.
IF i want that, I fire up Dirt Rally (a great game) or Assetto Corsa.
That gets adrenaline going and heart rate up.
WHich is exactly NOT what I'm looking for in ATS or ETS2.

If you are extremely passionate about FPShooters and MMO sword slashing games why
don't you become a mass murderer psychotic jack ass in real life?

So you play it because it's relaxing.
And as for the last thing you said, that's completely retarded. People play MMOs as a social activity and sense of progression and/or roleplaying as fictional / medeival characters, things they can't do in real life. Nobody plays shooters/mmos to feel the thrill of taking someones life, however a Trucking game is obviously aimed at a very specific audience (that apparently is much broader than I imagined).

Can't speak for anyone else, but personally I'm not that passionate about trucks. Yeah I like some of them (American models in particular), but a lot of that has grown on me after playing the game, not before, and I didn't get the game for that.

The reason I like games like these is similar to what many others said above - they're relaxing. It seems that games companies nowadays are intent on outdoing each other with action and over-the-top intensity in their games, and sure that's great for those who like that sort of thing. But I don't...I'm tired of the non-stop intensity that usually leaves me more tired when I finish playing than when I started, and I easily go into sensory overload when too much is going on at once.

Simulators such as this game are much more chill and laid back, much more of an escape. You can just sit back, put some music on, crack open a beverage and drive off into the distance, without having to think too much, without worrying about gameplay strategies or winning and losing, without having to care.

Also, I love the exploration aspect to it all - the discovery of exploring the map and seeing the sights. I've always loved that in any freeroaming game, and it's probably the main draw in my case. Finding out what's down that road or what unusual sight may be over the next hill, descovering that distant city that you've never been to or seeing that vista which you had not seen before...there's something really cool in it for me.

+1

By your logic OP anyone into FPS should not be playing them but rather active military. Your such hypocrite.

lol if you're curious man, see if you can pick up ETS2 in one of Steam's really cheap sales. You never know, you might find that it appeals to you more than you think. And even if it doesn't, you won't have spent much trying it out^^

Again, most people play shooters as a social activity rather than because they like watching things die. Generally people join the armed forces if they don't have any other choice or if they want to defend their country.
