Sleeper cab or no sleeper cab for your hired drivers?
Is there any benefit to giving trucks with sleepers to your hired drivers or is it just a waste of money? I've been buying Freightliner Cascadia trucks with the 48" sleeper cab for my hired drivers so far. I'd like to know if I should just be buying them the day cab version to save 30k a truck. Thanks! :GDNormal:

"Waste" of money depends on your goals. Your drivers will return the most profit with the cheapest new, not used trucks , so if you want money for sure don't buy sleepers or any upgrade for that matter. If you're trying to shed money, then more spent is better :lunar2019smilingpig:

Well, I'm pretty new to the game overall, so I don't exactly have a ton of money just to throw around yet. I was just curious if they would do jobs faster or something if they had a sleeper cab. Thanks for the reply! :104:

I don't think it even matters how long the haul is, if they need a sleeper.

It's a good question and I'd like to know as well!

I used to just buy them day cabs, but now get them 500hp sleepers, just because I felt sorry for my hired drivers. Lol. They will make me plenty of money.

Job duration for hired workers is defined by the job offers, not the types of vehicles they are driving. If they have a sleeper, they could be just resting/sleeping at designated parking areas. If not, then by their standards a simple 10-bucks-a-night motel will do just fine. They decide by themselves regardless of vehicle setup and you won't really see the outcome in game anyways, other than 'resting' or 'sleeping' in their status list.

Ah, that makes sense.

It makes no difference in-game. All your drivers sleep sitting in their seat behind the wheel, just like you do. It's kind of a shame they can't figure a way to actually utilized Day cabs in a way that limits Job distance, or Leveling up the "long distance" skill.

In game terms it's irrelevant, but in my headcannon I get them all a nice big cabin because I want to be a good employer and make them comfortable.
For gameplay only, what makes some difference (although barely noticeable) is what you install under the hood. But I always buy sleeper cabs for my employess, because...

... I do the same. 😉
Barbie Dress-Up: Semi Edition, is one of my favorite things to play. So i blow the money and get them decked out trucks.

With that said, as mentioned no it really doesn't matter... But it matters to me :steamhappy:

Here is a guide made by kaki_gamet how it works with better trucks for hired drivers. Its for ETS2 but ATS should work the same.

To precis that guide, the 48 ft sleeper for the Cascadia is level 10 and thus a driver with that cabin instead of the day cab will earn 1% extra per delivery. The cabin doesn't really cost you 30K. adding (if the calculations in my code are correct - this has only really been tested for ETS2) just $10,990 to the cost of a new truck or $17,630 for an upgrade, but even adding the cabin at the dealers your driver needs to earn $1,099,000 before the cost is amortised, which may take them a while.

To the best of my knowledge that 1% improvement in earnings is the only benefit in game - your drivers are just automatons that do 14 hours on, 10 hours off, day after day after day with no additional rest and no time off. They have no need of rest areas, they just stop and sleep after the 14 hours have elapsed whatever cabin you give them.

Wow, this is very interesting. So basically there is a slight benefit, but it will take a long time for the drivers to make up the difference.

Try doing a test if you had two drivers, one who had a day cab and another who has sleepers. From the same garage?

It has all been done over and over, statistics taken from hundreds of trips, see comments above :cozybethesda:
