96% positive - why?
This game has a 96% overwhelmingly positive score. And frankly, I don't understand why. Don't get me wrong, I do like this game personally, but have you checked the achievements?

A couple examples:
Only 65% of all players have bought a truck.
And only 32% have fully upgraded a single garage.

Both are easy to achieve very early in the game.

Are most people playing for maximum a very few hours, and never touching it again, or? That's what the achievements suggests. And if that's the case, 96% positive seems way too high, at least to me.

i have around 100 hours into the game since the last recent sale (which is nothing compared to alot of others) i picked the base game and all dlc very cheap i think it was around 40$.. ive yet to fully upgrade a garage but im also using the realistic economy (hard mode) mods real fuel prices ect its been slow but really enjoyable (as for the achievments thing, i believe alot of ppl play online on truckersmp only idk if you get achievements there).. i can see why it has such high reviews the game is exacly what it claims to be and does it rather well compared to "sim" games like snowrunner or the likes.. Theres also a crazy amount of content and mods, content updates (deff on sale) im 100 hours in and have been on less then 30% of the roads in game let alone jobs, trucks, management.. the simulation is done really well if you use a set up like a wheel shifter pedels clutch air break being very immersive at times working through 18 speed while hauling a triple behind you.. with the mods being able to make the game function how you want or completely add different maps/functionality into the game makes it sorta endless or replayable . if you enjoy simulation truck driving then ats/ets is hands down the best and most "sim" simulation truck driving game ive played yet, while other feel alot more arcade with a "sim" sticker on the front.

why is that so important ?
Oz Gaming May 30, 2021 @ 10:53pm
Why are you even asking this OP ???
johnny_m_j May 30, 2021 @ 10:59pm
It's not "important". And the reason I ask why, is that I find it extremely weird that it's one of the highest rated games on Steam ever, even though it seems so many barely plays before quitting.

The popularity of the game has Nothing to do with how many achievements people have or don't have. I have played for 582 hours and still have not got 34% of the achievements. I am not interested in achievements as I'm sure other people aren't either. Every time a new state is released, more achievements are added to the game. When Wyoming is added soon there will be more achievements added.

I have 15 hours in it and I haven't upgraded a garage to max.

I have long wondered this too, Johnny_m_j. It seems no one really is seeing this from a more critical lens. I don't have a good answer. I think most maybe mod their game, which doesn't allow them to get the achievements. That would be my best guess.

I get where you're coming from, OP, but it's just a matter of people who vote, and people who don't. The people who love this game are more likely to up-vote it. People who tried it out, did some Quick Jobs to get a feel, but didn't progress enough to buy their own truck or upgrade a garage simply stopped playing. The game isn't bad or buggy. It was exactly what it advertised itself to be, so if someone just stopped playing, they weren't turned off enough to cast a down-vote.

The game has always been inexpensive and during Steam sales it's practically a steal. Who knows how many people got the game cheap, or gifted, tried it out, and just figured it wasn't for them. There are many games I've gotten, played just a little, never touched again, or even refunded, and I didn't leave a negative review or vote for them.

I got about 580hr on ETS and additionally something about 280hrs on ATS and I really enjoy both of them. I just can agree with what @OZ_Trucking mentioned, not really going after the achievments.

Interesting. That may be the answer :)

But quite a few achievements are unavoidable, and you WILL get them no matter how you play. And many of these are obtained by a surprisingly low percentage of the players.

That number doesn't mean, that 96 % of the people who bought the game gave it a positive score.

What it means is, that 96 % of those who bothered to write a review gave it a positive assessment.
No rude intentions, but you're stating what we all already know.

The achievement stats for ATS (and the equivalent ones for ETS2) would suggest that one-third of those who buy the game never progress beyond quick jobs. If you play the first few hours of a game like this and decide it isn't for you, are you going to leave a negative opinion or simply move on to another game in your ever-growing Steam library?

Fundamentally what the 96% positive tells you is that those who do get into this game have barely a bad word to say about it - that once it gets its hooks into you and you understand why people were raving about it in the first place that you will push its virtues to anyone that will listen. I always wondered why PC Gamer were so high on a truck sim until I actually tried it for myself and my adult son still pooh-poohs the idea of playing a game representing 'a real life job'.

Just as an aside I have just shy of 100 hours of driving time in ATS and have never upgraded a garage and likely never will.

You most certainly can get achievements with mods. I always play modded and I have all the achievements.

Not everyone who plays the game writes a review. It just seems to me that, more people care enough to share why they like the game than people who don't. Doesn't mean all the people who quit after 2 hours loved it/hated it, just means they didn't bother to leave a review.
