The old 18 Wheels games were better for it. It varied in quality from game to game but it was enough to give you a little care in how you drive. It would be nice to have that back.
I actually have a laundry list of things I'd like to see come into the game- including less time spent sleeping when using a sleeper, or the ability to just pull over to sleep. Otherwise I end up having to stop when I still have a few hours before I need to rest because the next rest stop is too far ahead for me to make it without speeding.
It was fun to begin with, but then it happened every single time and it started to get boring...watching the same cutscene...pulling over. I know it's a different genre, but my point is games have done something similar in the past.
There doesn't need to be a cutscene, as Spice has said, a simple fade out would do the job. Similar the 18 Wheels games, you'd get a screen with a huge bill shown to you, no cutscene. Cutscenes would get tiresome, but these days they often come with a skip feature anyway.
It's quite incredible what modders can achieve nowadays. People have done total conversions of some games, effectively making the title a whole new game which barely resembles the original in the eyes of the player.
With enough technical know-how, it could actually be done I'd imagine. However it would require a huge amount of knowledge, skill and work, and it'd be a pretty major mechanic tacked on with sticky tape, so would need a whole raft of bugfixing and maintenance to keep it operational.
 Just my two cents on this.
It is sadly true that ATS is a game where you are just the truck, whereas in another truck driving game that comes to mind, you are a truck driver. There is a huge difference. I strongly believe that those players that want more realism and feel like they are actual virtual truck drivers will gravitate toward the other truck driving game. I know I have. Sure, that other game is not near as polished as ATS, but given the fact that ATS has been around more many years and the other game has only been out for a few months and their dev team is pretty small, I imagine in a few years that other game can be even better than ATS as their dev team grows and they get more experience. Im sorry that I only refer to the other game like I do, but I have seen many of my posts being removed when I mentioned the name of the other game in this forum. I hope the devs allow this comment to remain.
