Gardening to maximize apples
I'm trying to make as many apples without the need to return to weed or water the garden.

I have all 9 soil units laid out in a 3x3 grid, so there's 9 plots by 9 plots for 81 total. An apple tree takes up all 9 plots for the one soil, so I was wondering if this would work, or if there would be unexpected issues presented. (Note: I would have tried this instead of making a post, but I am growing crops currently and likely won't be able to try this for a day or two still)

Idea: Put 8 apple trees surrounding the outside of the 3x3 grid, leaving the middle soil open. In the middle soil, using the 8 outer plots, I alternate potato and carrots.. The center can be whatever can fit in a single plot, but I'm thinking Tomato would be best?

Would this be sufficient to keep the apple trees retaining water and preventing weeds? Is there any benefits to doing a wide variety of fruits and veggies in such an arrangement they are all watered and weed free vs doing this for 8 apple trees and a few carrots/potatoes every few (game) days in between?

No, it takes 3 of a boost type adjacent to the apple tree for it to receive the boost.

Google 'Arenvanya’s guide to gardening in Palia' to get a very thorough explanation of gardening and example layouts.

I see.. each tree would only have 2 adjacent at best.. and I didn't even think about the outer 4 corners only surrounded by apple trees.. so that's 0 adjacent boosts.. n/m, dunno what I was thinking.. thank you for the help

You can do something like this for 100% water and weed with 5 apple trees

Use this layout - 5 apple trees all weed free and watered their entire growth cycle:

That's pretty good.. thank you.

Looks like the potatoes still require watering for this layout? If the Onions are contributing to the weed prevention, and the carrots are optional.. wouldn't substituting the carrots for Tomatoes help keep the potatoes retaining water too?

Thank you.. I think that helps answer my previous question.. thank you both for the inputs and ideas.. I think I'll be using these once my crops have been cleared out and I can center the 9 soils in my Courtyard.

Sorry to necro my own post, but it was this or a new thread.. and this seems like the lesser of two evils (necro vs new post for same topic)

I tried the 5 apple tree configuration, but for whatever reason I would always end up mucking up the order/placement of the potatoes, tomatoes, carrots and onions.. so I found my own configuration that I like. It's one less apple tree, but it has a higher harvest boost and a higher profit yield.. (and an extra crop for maximized variety)
