Is it worth 60?
the whole pixel remaster was 60 right? 1 through 6.

This alone 60? was the system anything special? just your standard dungeon crawl menue jrpg?

Maybe try an old dragon quest game before. If you like it, you will most likely be amazed by this one.

If you're thinking of the Final Fantasy PRs, no. 1 and 2 are $11.99, 3 through 6 are $17.99. $95.94 for all of them. Those also did not overhaul the game to nearly the same degree as this remake does.

It cannot be overstated how massively influential Dragon Quest III was on the JRPG genre. It absolutely dominated the culture in Japan to a degree that the NES Final Fantasy games, despite being popular and influential, didn't come close to. Nearly every criteria you would consider necessary to be a "JRPG" traces its roots back to this game.

With that said, the game has only been out for a couple of hours, so most people here can't answer how your questions apply specifically to this remaster rather than the original. You'd need to go read reviews from reviewers who got pre-release copies for that information.

I am not usually the one to complain about game pricing but this is a bit to much to justify what it is. Octopath Travellers is using the same tech but it is a original IP made from scratch and was priced the same, while this is using same tech and graphics design but reusing already existing concept art and game design.

I feel like 40 would be more appropriate for this release.

Can you find anything better to play? I surely can't. Games these days are terrible, so I'll take what I can get.

It's a beautiful remake, but $60 usd is still a hard sell. I say that as someone who loved dq3 on NES

I love the art style, the genre and have enjoyed every similar game in recent years, but this one in particular is probably better priced at $40. It falls a bit short of how well made and full of features / animations Octopath Traveler is.

I realize a lot of these things are stylistic choices to keep it similar to the original Dragon Quest III, but I think that means it should have been priced accordingly.

No. They put Body Type A & B nonsense and changed the artwork for modern sensibilities, then dared to charge $60 for an HD texture pack.

Just play the original.

Yup, it's pricy but for me personally it's worth it. Old style Dragon Quest, can you really ask for more these days? :steamhappy:

From what I've seen - I feel like Squenix used the excuse of 'keeping it close to the original' to cut corners. The UI is ugly and janky. The sprites are pretty lacking in animations. It just 'feels' low budget in several ways besides the art being pretty great.

Hell no

If this game is worth 60$, how much Baldur’s gate 3 should sell for? 20k?

Besides the amount and quality of content, how much could this remake cost to make?

There are so many great games out here, something so overpriced can wait until it’s on sale for 15 to 20$ - the price of many excellent and IMO superior indies.

Just my view. If someone is fixated on DQ, they will happily pay 60 and SEnix will even more happily oblige to squeeze them.
A lot of remasters aren’t priced in proportion of the value of their content and development effort, but for IP and nostalgia, a model I have little sympathy for.

But I also never appreciated the DQ series, felt bare and boring compared to other old RPGs like Lufia, Lunar, FFVI, not to mention proper PC ones like Ultima and the original Fallouts.

No.

if they included 1 2 and 3 for that price(maybe 70$ for all three), then yes.

best 20-30$ atm

its both a good and bad remake.
(letting outside insanity influence it..someone already said it, with monster alterations..ect)

For me, its also too much Bloom/post processing imo and i will be turning that down to the min/off, when i pick it up.

If you are really wanting it.
look for official resellers like GMG and get it for 50$
or wait a few weeks and it will be 32-41$.

Like any single player title the worth can only really be determined by your own personal excitement for it. If you want to play it today, then yes it's easily worth it. You get a great remake of a classic RPG that will give you many hours of fun.

If you're in no rush, or have other games to get on with right then now then there's no harm in holding off until a sale.
