Amazing!! I hope maybe they will do the same thing for Dragon Quest 4 or maybe even some of the early Dragon Quest Monsters games.

Honestly the whole Z trilogy would be nice and you have to imagine they ARE coming. Despite all these loud jabronies as people with logic and reason have mentioned the game is doing exceedingly well and I don't see why anything will be different six or so months from now when I and II drop.

I'd love a remake of 4, but I don't know if I want 6 or even 4 remakes all done in the HD-2D style. One of the reasons I dislike the DS ports is because of the shared assets.

If they do 4, I hope they put in a ton of effort to make it its own game with its own identity.

Shipped doesn't mean sold. But the game does seem to be doing well, which is a good thing overall. The far-left activists injecting their nonsense hopefully won't be around too much longer.

If we're lucky, the next one will have less meddling.

Dude, seriously, get over yourself. There's been no 'far-left activist meddling' in this game, that's silly hogwash and has been since the first time that nonsense was claimed.

The game isn't just 'doing well', it's an objective success by every metric. And in this context, yes, 2 million shipped does mean sold, easily, since we know for a fact that, in Japan alone, it's sold just shy of 1-million physical copies.

Do be careful climbing down off that high horse though.

That's half-true. It does mean that stores have not necessarily sold copies off of their shelves; but it also means that Square-Enix has sold the copies they manufactured to stores, which means they got their money for it.

And that's beside the point because the game is selling so well in Japan that there are shortages of Switch copies. It would have sold more if stores hadn't sold out.

Guys, if you look at this site: https://press.na.square-enix.com/DRAGON-QUEST-III-HD-2D-REMAKE-SELLS-MORE-THAN-2-MILLION-UNITS-WORLDWID they say "sold" 2M+, but then they go onto say 2M+ between "shipments" and downloads. So it seems like they are using the terms somewhat interchangeably for physical sales.

Look up consignment model.

Sold. Sooooooold.[press.na.square-enix.com]

Also you're ignoring the fact that what he's just pointed out is that there is a shortage of physical copies. They are selling out. So even if it was 'shipped', shipped here means sold, given that the stores have sold out of all the copies they got.

I'd happily leave if I could find the exit, but it seems there's no way out of this basement.

Downloads are actually sold to consumers. The only possible skewed number there is whether refunds are being taken into account. Game seems pretty popular, so I'd imagine whether they are accounting for refunds or not is irrelevant. But that's just a guess, I have no data.

Many retailers have consignment deals in place. Where portions of unsold stock can be sent back.

Regardless of all the semantics here, sold means sold. Not shipped. What consumers buy is what's sold.

That's a different claim than shipped. The claim there is sold.

And no, shipped is never going to mean sold no matter how much you keep trying to will it into being. Your feelings don't have the actual ability to change reality.

There's a word for doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
