Also warrior mage was fun. Cleric thief. Stole everything and removed ailments from party when needed.
In the end your toons will have as ll abilities.
Mage is about magic, mp pool and some speed/luck too /priest is average on everything almost equally....
Sage is about magic, MP pool AND is average or even good on the rest (and of course learn both spell type....) so its an easy choice here : better have a sage or a mixed physical character for your "final class" than just a priest or a mage in my opinion....
The priest is kind of just boned in comparison to a Sage. They do offer better luck but I don't think that's enough.
But sages can learn puff so you have a guaranteed turn 2 kill if they haven't fled yet, so...
Making a sage is still always a good idea, but just be mindful of saving those luck seeds. Otherwise your primary caster could be stuck sleeping through the hardest part of the game.
The main thing I think should be added to the above about Sages is that they have the lowest HP gain among casters at late game (around 40). With post-game levels this is further hampered by their slower level up rate. Also, when it comes to Strength, Sages switch places with Priests in Strength sometime after Level 40 (this is partly due to their slower leveling, partly because Priests have stronger Strength gains in the 40s and 50s than Sages do), with Sages not catching back up in Strength until around Priest 90.
Priests are the slowest casters. Theoretically this may be useful if you put them on AI to act as the slow healer with FullHeal and Kazing. But from my experience in the prior remake most postgame healing wants to use Multiheal.
