I wish the "running in the fallout" mod had campaign support. Great game and a great mod

Fun casual top down shooter.

This game is very fun in single player and it is perfect if you like to watch big groups of NPCs shoot each other for extended periods of time. The modding support is wonderful and has a plethora of community content.

However BE AWARE that despite what the description might suggest the game can barely be called a tactical shooter. There is no meaningful strategic or logistics game play, in single player at least, beyond the most basic of squad level tactics. Ammunition and manpower is infinite, armor rushes straight into the front line and gets blown up instantly, and the AI battles often end in stalemates with each side taking turns throwing bodies onto the point.

Overall, RWR makes for an unique experience that is simple, fun and is more fitting as a sandbox/arcade game.

You run with a rifle, you get shot at, maybe you die and respawn with a new rifle to run with. All in all, a fun experience.

*Yes, there is workshop integration so you can be Running With Kemonomimi you degenerate. Yes, that is the name.

So, there's a couple of things that may take getting used to - the health system isn't traditional. Instead, all weapons (I'd love to say 'guns' but the Pacific War DLC has the full "TENNO HEIKA BANZAI!" going for it, shin gunto and all) have a 'lethality' rating. This ranges from as low as 0.45 (suppressed SMG when 'detected') to guaranteed 1 (sniper rifles, explosives). When these weapons hit a character, these characters roll that chance to die. Then the vests come into play - these are basically extra lives. So someone wearing a Vest III can take 3 sniper rifle shots before they fall (or possibly a silly amount of lower powered rounds). Wearing a vest gives you the whole I NEED A MEDIC bleedout timer (1min) you see in those screenshots when you go down.

The camera is locked. No scrolling in/out, no elevation change. You'll have to guess based off the topographical line markers (y'know, those maps with the rings upon rings of lines on them to denote elevation - there's a setting to make them more visible/opaque) or...turn on FOV (Experimental) settings to give you a shaded line of sight so you don't accidentally blast yourself with a grenade launcher like a massive ♥♥♥♥♥. That line of sight thing should really be default, honestly. Yes, I exploded a couple of times.

The game responds well enough. There's a frontline where the AIs will be throwing all their men and if it stalemates hard enough, you're welcome to don a camo suit with a suppressed rifle, sneak round to their rear, pop a few heads, call a few reinforcements and...voila. Stalemate turned into pincer. The AI is very 'A' though. You might be able to see the markers where you/they've called in 5 salvos of artillery but the AI just keeps charging. You might be able to drive (kinda jank and I wanna test if my gamepad can be used so I turn lighter rather than the equivalent of jamming the wheel fully to the left instantly) but the AI hits something, reverses, hits it again and blames it on the clutch. Not a metaphor. Could be a while before it resolves. Unless you specifically order your driver somewhere, they'll probably always use roads too which could be less than ideal (truck full of squaddies going to flank?). Best you just drive and let the AI do the shooting. Multi vehicle squads are not a thing. No panzer blitzkrieg for you! (Yet. RWR2 promised.) No air vehicles. Helicopters/planes are purely visual.

The WW2 DLCs are fun - and if you crank up the spawn modifiers to 300%, you'll really feel Omaha Beach for sure. The sheer bog of men dying is utterly ridiculous. Truly, into the jaws of hell.



Wasn't sure I'd like it, but Steam ("This game doesn't look very relevant to you.") said 'hey, its like 3 bucks!' at the time and I believe $1 =1h is a good value. Having played it, I think I would've been happy for full price. 300% Omaha Beach burnt me out but I'm definitely going back for the other 3 WW2 campaign lines at some point.

Hella good game, only thing I have against this that it's difficult, but that's also what makes the game fun. You're not a one man army, you're another average joe in the army.
