Readme: Valve Index Support
NOTE: Gripping the controller will sometimes prevent trigger presses from responding. You will need to let go of the controller (let it "float" out of your open hand) and then press the trigger.

For the launch of Valve Index, we have released a set of controller bindings that will allow you to take advantage of the Index Controllers' capacitive sensors so you can reach out and grab objects naturally.

To enable these controls, open SteamVR and go to Settings > Controller Binding (or Devices > Configure Controller on desktop).

From there, find and select The Gallery from your list of applications. Then, choose from the following:

Index Default
This config is intended to be used with default game settings. It will enable capacitive hand animations and joystick teleportation. Grabbing will be activated traditionally with a trigger press.

Index Recommended
This config requires the following in-game settings:
  • Input Options > Blink Touchpad Button: Right
  • Game Options > Blink Options > Blink Mode: Point
When selected, this config will allow you to grab objects naturally using the Index pressure sensitivity, as well as enable modern joystick teleportation (a la SteamVR Home).

Please note that these control options are experimental and may cause irregularities in gameplay. Changing additional game/input settings may cause further issues.

Tried this, cant get it to work. It works the same as vive wands, trigger to pick up. Grip or thumb does nothing. Is this a fault/bug?, or how its meant to be?

The Index Default binding requires trigger to pick up. Index Recommend is what you want to use for Grip Pick Up — but make sure to change the in-game settings.

If you're getting stuck thinking your trigger doesn't work, try releasing your grip from the controller. Because the grip counts as a trigger, it won't let you both grip the controller and press the trigger at the same time.

Episode 2 doesn't support the Index? I'm playing the game now, have controllers, have set it to Index in the Steam Settings and the menu options do not reflect the index. I did go back to Ep. 1 (with my original game progress being lost for some reason), there it does show up in the game settings, but I'm unable to select the menu. I did get it to come up briefly by accident which is how I saw that it recognizes the index.

Both Episodes of The Gallery support Index in the same way, with controls being set through the Steam settings. If you're unable to select when using Index controls, try releasing your grip from the controller as mentioned above -- eg, leave your hand floating off the controller when you press the trigger.

The background fog in episode 1 is different for each eye using the Index.

Where can I select index recommended, here's a screenshot of my controller binding page, do I need to go and edit the default?

Strange... it looks like your game is not booting the correct environment for the controller options.
Did you buy the game regularly on Steam?

Another way you can get to the environment is in the SteamVR popup window, click the menu button, then choose devices, controller setup. Then find Call of the Starseed in the list and follow the details above.

Let me know if that helps.

Index user here: I'm also having the issue where distance fog renders different for each eye at the beginning area on the beach.
