Common POE Trade Scams for new players.
Hello I want this to help out new players who are interested in trading but do know what they are doing. I actually want to talk about common trade scams bc people are terrible. I can't talk about every single one so if other POE 1 vets want to talk thier favorite scams they come across feel free to contribute. I want to talk about the oldest and most prevalent scam in POE

The Bait and Switch

Here's how it works. You're on trade and you see a unique amulet you need , the stats are great, and the price is acceptable. You whisper, they invite you to thier hideout. You open the trade window. You put down the correct currency they want, they put down the amulet you want. You press accept and all of a sudden the seller backs out the trade. No worries he chats you and says thier cat jumped on the the keyboard and they are ready to trade. You open the window, you put down the currency, they put down the amulet...you accept the the trade. You're happy, they are happy and you return to your hideout. You look at the amulet and you notice the stats are lower than they are suppose to be. You message the seller, the seller has blocked you. Congratulations you just been scammed and there nothing you can do about it.

How to avoid this scam.

Its pretty self explanatory. Don't press accept until you are 100% sure youre getting what you're paying for. This also goes the other way. People try to short change you using the same method. Instead of 150 exalts they try to to give you 140 tje 2nd time and hope you dont notice. As soon as a trade is canceled for any reason your alarm bells need to be blaring. Not saying everyone who does this is trying to scam you...but this is how people scam. Scammers take advantage of your excitement and create frustration to get you to make mistakes. Take your time and read the items, count all the currency ...don't get jammed.

Hope this helps...I have plenty more scams to discuss later.

Yes, just stop complaining. Take it as it is, and never say anything.
That's how things change, right? Not like it's an early access and that they're listening to feedback, especially with how many things they changed from PoE 1 that for years have been something that Dev's have been 100% against.

As for myself; i will never stop telling GGG that parts of their vision are stupid, no matter how many times they try to explain how it's "necessary friction".

When you write a manifesto this long it's not going to change

So the problem is... there are people smarter than you, able to take advantage of you.

Whats the solution? Eugenics.

Or go play a better game that has a modern trade method or one that doesn’t force you to trade to progress at a reasonable rate.

the biggest scam of them all is price dropping. many people will put an item up for a price that is far below market value with no intention of selling it. they then turn on live search and wait for others to use the same or lower price to sell their goods. then buy it up and resell for twice that cost. it's incredibly common by non-english speakers. it's not as bad for me anymore, since every time i see someone attempting to sell an item for far lower than the market value i send a trade request and if they don't respond i add them to my ignore list. my list must have well over a hundred people on it from poe1 and poe2.

i kinda agree with this. Trades should be done in within a vendor window like a AH but maybe that's just my view

it's called fraud...... they may benefit from the strategy with some people, however they lose the privilege of ever participating in legit trading practices with me, or anyone else wise enough to block/ignore them. i highly encourage everyone to block people who don't respond to your trade requests if it's on an item that was obviously dropped w/ no intention of selling it.

Lol imagine how much of a lowlife carnie you have to be to scam people out of a trade in a freakin' video game.

Scam: Low Selling

You're on trade and you see an amulet that usually cost 100 exalts being sold by a bunch of people for 70. OMG today is my lucky day. You whisper them and........nothing. Overtime you keep asking about the item and they keep ignoring you. Congratulations...youre not being scammed bc you're not the target.

Meanwhile Joe Newplayer drops the same amulet and doesn't know what to do with it. They hear this trade thing can help you make currency so they try it for the first time. They watch a couple of bad YouTube videos, go on trade, see an amulet like there's being sold for 70 exalts. Ok...I will also sell my amulet for 70 exalts. Suddenly you get a whisper from another seller wanting to buy your amulet for 70 exalts. Congratulations...you just got scammed. What you dont know is the people who originally put the amulet for 70 have no interests in selling thiers for 70, they just want to get a sucker to sell their amulet for 70 so they can buy it for cheap.

How to avoid:

Experience and using all the tools at your disposal to understand how how much something is really worth. I don't want to get into all the tools bc this is long enough, just want to tell you if something is too good to be true...then it is.

have you tried out the awakened trade version of poe2 called exiled exchange 2?

In PoE 1 GGG protected the scammers on forums - even if you posted definitive proof that the person is a scammer, your post got deleted and you risked getting a ban, while the scammer's trade posts would remain untouched and unopposed, free of problematic comments that might expose them, free to continue scamming.

Is it still the case going forward with PoE 2?

If there's any kind of scams they might as well just make an auction.
Just an NPC who presents the auction items

might as well assume it is. i had someone try and sell me a lesser jeweler's orb when they posted for greater and i put in the 20ex. i screenshotted it and reported. i highly doubt anything will happen but it's better than nothing
