I am just sad GGG PR team is F tier like Blizzard. They are ruining what these fantastic devs have created.
I agree, when full launch happens, there is SO much classes and subclasses (ascendancies) that no other arpg does not even come close with how much different kinds of playstyles and builds can then play in one game of the genre.. every other game then feels a bit mid compared to that, even each of them CAN have like one or two things they are known to be good at.
I feel PoE2 is at full launch such a huge COMPLETE package of so much in it, that others needs to step up, competition is always good for the genre, this will force others to pump out something special for their next expansions, if they want to gain more players besides their most loyal core.
What you mean about their PR team? Honest question, have not followed their socials etc lately? Did they do some bad pr or bad change lately? Since as said, am now in the "waiting for full launch mode". :)
Game is too stuck in the past to be the best, and to be the best going forward. It is fun, and a whole hell of a lot better than what PoE 1 was (the only ARPG I truly do not like.)
It's still nowhere near the first 2 Diablo games, Grim Dawn, Titan's Quest, the Sacred series, etc. I'd place it above Diablo 3, but not above that game once Reaper of Souls hit. I don't know how to rank it against Diablo 4 to be honest. There are things I like about D4 more, and things I like about PoE 2 more. Both are very flawed, but there is fun to be had in each.
(Last Epoch fans, sorry, couldn't include that game. Only game I have ever refunded, because for whatever reason I was running into problems getting it to run. Refunded before the 2 hour mark simply cause I couldn't troubleshoot it and get it to run, so haven't played that one and can't offer comment.)
Edit: Oh yeah, I'd place Grim Dawn as the best ARPG. It's just graphically... not impressive to say the least.
Honorable Mentions - D1 , Sacred , Fate , Dungeon Siege 2..
Dungeon Siege 2... also a really fun game. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good joke.
At time PoE 2 ist the last arpg i would play because if i wanna play a non rewarding trade simulator there are better games on the market.
So it time i dont play any arpgs.
If i had to play my ranked would be:
1. Last Epoch
2. D4
I could have a look at Grim Dawn but at time no game isnt my time worth.
D4 is boring because always the same map and story.
Last Epoch could be funny but i wanna have a new game with better story, more motivationg gameplay and others.
PoE 2 sucks so hard and thats no reason of ea.
Its a stupid mechanic to make this game a trade simulation, dont give you rewards and good loot.
Newer saw such a stupid mechanic to browse online in a tradecenter and need to whisper to buy something.
Most of whispered persons didnt answered.
Furthermore they increase the problem with RMT because loot drop is so bad, worst ever seen in a game.
PoE 2 would be good game if:
1. No useless tradecenter -> exchanged through a real good auctionhouse
where you can buy things directly withouht trading.
2. Really much better reward ingame from bosses and others to get useful lootdrop
so no big need of auctionhouse.
3. Stupid RNG upgrade systems, no good real crafting
This are mechanics they could implement in the planing of the game but they dont
want it.
That means the game is trash for me.
So doesnt matter if they will increase the story or bring in more classes.
The game mechanics are trash so doesnt care about this game any more if
they dont change this.
You know what, i love the extra comments each class makes about certain enemies/situations/places.. like Witch often comments enemy bosses etc that are also witches as "Sisters".. making insults etc towards them. It adds a LOT to the immersive feeling for me.
I really enjoy that aspect of the game, voiced lines about enemies are so cool little interactions that makes it feel unique.
Good lists here from people so far.. except as a fangirl of PoE2 i must say that if not put it at the top they are a bit coping, numbers of players do not lie. :P I mean.. we are not a hivemind as gamers, all got individual taste, but even people who has some other game as their own top1, must admit that PoE2 was the biggest thing to happen to this genre, and others will truly have to compete for the arpg players attention in their next content/DLC, because people WILL compare it all to PoE2 as sort of "new standard". Imagine putting out a new game now with less classes/subclasses etc?
I have heard good things about Grim Dawn so far though, maybe i should try it?
By the way.. does anyone remember if there was some Warhammer 40K universe ARPG(ish) type of game? Or do i remember wrong? Maybe it was just a dream.. I tried to search for it, but Steam results give so many WH40K games and DLC to them that hard to find a single game among them because there are so many games and DLC with WH40k in the name of them..
Warhammer ARPG style game is called Warhammer 40k: Inquisitor. It's not bad. From the things you seem to mention about PoE 2 (class selection thing) Grim Dawn seems more up your alley. Graphically it can be a bit rough, but the class system in that game is the best I've ever experienced. You get to pick 2 classes, and you can mix and match them however you want. They also have a new expansion coming soon, with another class to add into that mix. So may be worth putting it on your list for when that comes out, if you're interested.
Edit: with the way classes/masteries work in Grim Dawn, when the expansion releases that basically means like 45 classes/class combos you get to make/choose from, to give you an idea.
Do you have any official source for those D4 numbers of active players being bigger than PoE2?
Oh thanks, will check it out! Not like already had enough games on my to-do-list..

Actually looks like decent fun the Inquisitor, totally a game to pick if goes on a nice sale. ^^
And.. will add Grim Dawn to my wishlist then and buy on next sale. People say it was on big sale during winter sales, missed that - classic. :D
