List your item and a price.
Someone else sees your listing and pays for it.
Buyers can list an item they want with necessary modifiers and a price they're willing to pay for it.
Seller sees the listing, matches the required item and makes a sale.
Leave in the current trade website and manual trade systems for those that prefer it.
Boom. Done. No pissing about with whispers and hideouts.
Both sides get to trade the way they want to. Everyone wins.
POE1 and POE2 will both be improved. Because they're good games now doesn't disprove the need for an auction house.
The fact that the currency exchange works should dispel any worries about automated item exchange by here we are sadly.
Sounds like the devs have general issues. Yes I agree they should probably work on those too. The difficulty of the game should never be how miserable it is to interact with basic mechanics.
That's a game design fail.
They might be worried about people posting gear to the auction house to use it as storage.
Limitations or taxes would have to be applied.
They've stated not right now. Meaning the idea is floating in their company.
Not a flat no forever. That was the same statements about a currency exchange long ago and now look what happened.
The simple solution is to use existing mechanics.
When Listing an item, it wouldn't go into a pocket dimension, it would simply point to the existing item as it is present in your Premium Stash Tab and lock the item in place while it is listed.
In order to Buy or Sell items you need to have gold. And the only way to get gold is to play the game. Gold is account bound and cannot be traded.
Most of this is already in POE1 and POE2. It's just Muh Vision preventing them from enabling it for gear pieces. Even though Muh Vision was obliterated by how good and natural the currency exchange system works.
Just like POE and Warframe. Or Diablo 4.
