Why have such a massive skill tree and act like you can play the game how ever you want when thats clearly not true...51 hours in and im about to uninstall...ive loved every second of that 51 hours till i get to the end of act 3....I am all in 100% on frost monk yet most bosses are extremely resistant to cold damage....i cannot beat the filth boss or the or the molten vault boss as i cannot do enough damage.... so basically GGG forces you to follow meta builds to play the game...they should just remove half of the skill tree at this point and only include the ones they basically force you into...going all frost is just stupid and a waste of time unfortunately...i cannot progress unless I go grind out areas ive already beaten to rank past where i should be in the story....I know its EA and i get all that but that skill tree imo is garbage and only there to confuse you and force you to create new characters once you realize your screwed and didnt pick the magic options they want you to...

The thing is too much stuff is missing. Same goes on warrior, theres literally one mace spec and basicly one route to it and thats it.

I agree with that the choice the passive skilltree is just fake, theres your one route to go and if you leave it dps will fall massively

Uh, you have lots of options to ensure your build works. In cold damage for instance, there are nodes all over the skill tree that make your damage penetrate resistances. All classes have access to spells such as Hypothermia (classes with no baseline int investment might struggle, but monk sure as hell doesn't) which reduce enemy resistances. There are also support gems such as Cold Exposure and Cold Penetration. You can also slip in a bit of side damage with Charged Staff so that you're not all-in on cold damage in spite of running a cold build.

There's lots of freedom, you can make damn near anything work in POE. The issue is that OP is using that freedom to make a dumpster fire of a build, then complaining that it's ineffective. Freedom is a double-edged sword, GGG aren't going to hold your hand and make sure you can succeed no matter what you pick, you need to pick an effective set of skills and passives otherwise you're going to get your ass kicked.

Roll a new character or check out online to see what other monks are doing. There are monk builds right now screen clearing.

you dont HAVE to.. especially this early it's probably not even a great idea to do so. everyone is still learning. But i mean, if the complaint is "other people are better than me. BAD GAME DESIGN" i have to say you're suffering from some serious cognitive disabilities...

I'm new to Poe and ive been playing without following any guides. I forced myself not to even watch any content because I didnt want to see why what I was doing is "bad" according to whatever the meta is. and im doing alright. up to T4 maps. I'm not sure im going to be able to progress a whole lot further than this as it's starting to become clear I need to make some adjustments. but.. thats the game? re-think, and re-spec. trial and error. being able to steamroll endgame without even understanding why the build works is not going to magically make you a better player. but the learning process will. and im sure once you understand what's going on and how everything interacts you'll be able to make your own builds successful. 100%

its prob your gear not your build

never had to change anything related to spells or passives

everytime i had to progress and couldnt make it , it was bcause of gear

once i had gear upgrades it was suddenly easy af to move on

yea could be it. ive had the same gear for ever nothing i get is better. just beat one of the 2 i was stuck on. I have a bunch into mana leech but i continue to run out of mana

stated in on act 3....never once stated i wanted to steam roll everything nor did i mention end game...im new as well...

sure. the point wasnt what act you're on. your point was feeling like you have to follow a meta to be able to make progress. and i responded that you definitely do not. being able to speed clear t15+ .. maybe. definitely not act 3 normal. you just need to make some adjustments. or get better gear.
