Crash on startup after about 10 seconds
Starting yesterday 12/18/2024 when I boot up POE 2 after about 10 seconds it crashes. Depending how fast I click I can make it to the load in screen or I can click around the settings a little bit to try and get something to to work. I have a little over 50 hours already played. Ive mostly had to use Vulcan the whole time because this startup crashing has occurred since day 1. I would startup say maybe 5 times and eventually it finally would let me in and i would have no problems. I played a couple 6 hour stretches with no crashes whatsoever. Crash is always at startup. I dont know what has changed but I did not change any settings they are the exact same as when it worked.

No matter what I do now, I tried getting in over 20 times today in a row. but 10 seconds. crash. it doesn't matter if I'm at the login screen, character selection, or loading into the game. 10 seconds. It takes about 7 seconds to boot, hit login, then start the game from character selection. leaving only 3 seconds until crash when loading in the game.]

Anyone else having similar issues? A workaround? It sucks having money sunk into this, but more importantly i was able to play 50+ hours. I just wanna see it through! ugghhh

I have 7800x3d and 4080 super, so I have plenty of horsepower.

Any recommendations, workarounds, anything would be appreciated. I'm not super tech savy so I feel helpless.

Are you using Windows Version 24H2? That is causing issues for people, and there is a 200+ page thread on the PoE2 forum about it.
Having the exact same problem. Crash when trying to enter Keth.
clear cache , try again, your settings will probably reset but redo them.

I read yesterday someone metion steam overlay might cause issues, I turned it off, today not a single crash or problme with a game. It works amazing.

Try disable and turn off any overlay , steam , nvidia etc...
I have the same issue. I have 40 Hours in the game with the normal multi core issues when loading into a map. But now i have these on startup crashes as well. Cant get into the game anymore.
I started getting the crashes during load screens yesterday, moving to the dedicated installer solved it for me, at least so far.
I did the following which immediately after the next start seemed to affect the behaviour. Unfortunately i didn't apply the scientific method so i don't know which one did the trick:

- Increasing the Shader Cache from default to 10 GB
- Removing the %appdata%/Path of Exile 2 Folder

But bet is on removing the poe2 folder in %appdata%.
Disabling the SteamOverlay for PoE2 solved the issue for me

My problem is crash in Titan Grotto with my 5700X3D / Radeon RX 6800XT gaming PC running Bazzite 41 OS, it's not crashing with other systems, strangely enough. The other PC systems are an older Shuttle XPC i7-6700T / Nvidia GTX 1070 running Win11 (Tiny 11). Also it's fine, but slow on a Lenovo Flex 14 8th gen core I5 / Nvidia MX130 running Arch Linux KDE and X11, with Wayland the game would never launch it would hang at the initial opening GGG screen/movie.
Disabling Steam Overlay fixed the crash. 10x @mr_latein
Win 24H2 has been problematic for a lot of stuff lately, I guess Q&A folks didn't get paid enough.
I managed to play normally yesterday.
Then today it keept crashing on start

Wiped cache, verified integrity, disabled Steam overlay, even reinstalled the game - still same issue. In the end, after n-th restart of PC, it worked. Mystery.

Mostly crashes during initial cogs spinning. Disabled Xbox Game Bar, disabled Steam Overlay and Recording, reached menu and crashed there. I've crashed 10 times already and seen menu only once, briefly. This is a very fun game...

And my Windows is only 22H2

Omg I love you
Disabling Steam Overlay fixed the problem for me. Nothing else.
Change your monitor's hdmi port. No idea why this worked. I found it on the POE2 forum after spending 2 days troubleshooting and jumping through hoops. Almost pisses me off more that the solution was something like this because it doesn't make sense.
