Id say it is the most gear dependent class.
Unfortunately by the time you get to maps the other classes have well exceeded what you can do unless you go the hyper specific stamped break armor route.
But thats not my idea of a warrior so I didn't go that way.
Better to set your own path instead of following others anyways.
And yes, just try them all out. You can actually give each starter class your own spin, mix classes together. The skill tree is big...
How are swords gonna fix issues with defense? Its problem within core of game mechanic that allows every class use everything and spec into everything. If you give swords some magic property that allows user to facetank hits, everyone will be forced to use sword as cheap defensive layer. Monks got acsendancy skill that give them armor from evasion and its probably the most broken thing in the game.
Everything is slow and clunky about it. You're Basic Attacking forever. It's all predicated on stunning stuff, but don't stun too good or your abilities don't work! Enjoy dying to stuff while animation locked, possibly and probably the guy you just killed!
Almost done with the Act 6 with Warrior and using Boneshatter/Leap. There's only two things that have actually been a nuisance. It took me way too long to learn about Resolute Technique in the passive tree (Hits can't be evaded) and if you go way too heavy on stun, every time you upgrade your weapon, you'll end up with too much stun and leap won't let you use boneshatter.
Warrior is fun, but slow. If you don't care about speed and laugh watching yourself never be one shotted, it's a good way to be able to soak some damage and learn the boss mechanics a little easier.
