XP loss keeps all you bad players from bragging about how you got to max level. Its a very good mechanic. Get good or dont progress!

yeah, because someone ever said "I'm max level" to rounds of applause...

Insecure troll is more the adjective set I would use, but you seem nicer than I am.

it's a stupid mechanic, time is too valuable to waste like that. It also pretty much keeps the majority of players from ever reaching max level. Some people play this game 10+ hours a day and don't see time as a valuable resource, this game mechanic was added for them. I bet this will be disabled once the easy/casual mode is made available where you can just relax and kill monsters with various viable builds without stupid elitist mechanics.

you don't need max level. if your build is already bad it won't become any better by few more levels and if it isn't you're most likely good enough to clear most content.

If you're level 85-90 and you get rocked by enemies 10 levels under you, then you deserve to take the L on some exp. Git gud.

that's a very dumb statement. In the end game only the meta build will be there there will be no build diversity. Glass canon will be useless because you can only finish your map an not lose 1/4 of your xp if you take 0 risk. So only dumb people like you who follow a meta build will end up level 100

I'm currently level 76 and haven't noticed any experience loss on death so far, but it might start at level 80 or higher. A bigger concern than the experience loss is that the maximum map level is 85, which means leveling beyond that will be extremely long.

there's an endless supply of games where you can mindlessly bang your head on the wall and the wall will give away at some point, go play those. leave the exceptions alone.

frankly I think they could just reset your level progress to 0 a'la souls rather than this weak 10% ♥♥♥♥, maybe people would take the hint then.
You start losing exp at 70. I personally don't die that much, so I haven't had any issues with it, but a lot of people playing less tanky builds are stuck at their level.

Agreed, dislike the xp loss. It's a step backwards and is a disrespect to the players time. For those that don't die, could you just play hardcore since you guys are so great that xp on death wouldn't matter anyways.

I understand that you guys are frustrated. But I'm telling you, the XP penalty on death is absolutely vital. Be careful what you complain about and ask for, because people generally do not know what they actually want.

Did anyone play the original EverQuest? It is one of the greatest games ever made. In that game, levels took forever, days. 1 death caused 20% XP loss, and you could lose levels. Die enough, and you'd lose access to your high level spells. You could go all the way back to level 1. World of Warcraft came along and listened to everyone who complained about death penalties and removed it.

The result was, EverQuest has actual risk vs reward. You can go down into the tough dungeon with great loot, but, if you die, you could lose hours of progress. Going down into those places actually felt dangerous. Triumphing felt awesome.

In world of Warcraft, death is meaningless. I think there was a small gold penalty to repair gear. It didn't sting. The dungeons didn't feel the same. They weren't dangerous. There was no community. In EQ, a cleric could resurrect and make your day, save your butt. It made a huge difference in the feel of the games.

Maybe you prefer WoW, but it's not the case that a death penalty is some outdated mechanic that no one wants. It's a mechanic that was added thoughtfully, and it adds something to the game. If you are dying a lot, you need to improve your defenses even at the expense of your offensive capabilities. Everyone can't just run glass cannon builds. This adds complexity and meaningful choices, risk and reward.

Edit: also want to add, I hear this complaint so much and it drives me crazy, "game disrespects my time". It comes off as so entitled. It sounds like you're mad that people can no-life the game and get ahead of you because you work 60 hours a week, so you want a game you can log into 45 minutes a day and have the same gear as the kid on Xmas break who plays 12 hours a day. You could focus on your own slow, steady progress and have a game you could enjoy for months or years, but you want instant gratification. Then when you get it, there will be nothing left to do, and the game will be stale.

I'm not at these level yet, but personally I like exp loss on death, it's kinda a hardcore mode without being one, it kinda forces you to be locked in.

It seems fun on paper for me.
