Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and Diablo 4 are still vastly superior in every aspect beside boss encounters and graphics
Even Crafting in Diablo 4 has way more depth and complexity, which is a novelty.
imo PoE 2 crafting is the worst in the entire genre
all you craft in PoE 2 is base items into useless rares of which 95% you trash
you can't even reroll specific affixes and you can't reroll affix numbers,
it is an utter joke.
and i am shocked by the lack of build variety, at least in early game...
i play sorc and you basically HAVE to go lightning first and spec into frost in mid/endgame
this is what ALL the streamers are playing and everything else on sorc i tried feels utter sht
at least in Diablo 4 i dont have to search one specific rare mob on a GIGANTIC map. effectively playing hide and seek, which can take up to 20 minutes in order to complete the g0d damn map
at least in Diablo 4 i can reroll a specific affix on items and make them good
and dont have to PoE craft 100x basic items into rares to maybe get 1 in 100 tries a good item
Poe 2 wins in the really interesting bosses, but ruins itself in a bunch of small problems that are so annoying
but the genre defining worst crafting in ARPG history,
the completely broken itemization (still wearing lvl 4 armor),
the tedious forced and required backtracking design on gigantic maps (worst endgame mapping i have ever seen),
the missing QoL (cant change between mouse and controller on the fly, no auto sort inventory, no mark as junk etc.)
the missing ingame auctionhouse in 2024 (still need stupid website for trade)
and the core gameplay is either 100 hit or 0% miss, u either do like super slow motion gameplay or you hate it.
I am coming from PoE 1, Diablo 4 and Last Epoch: i do hate the slowmotion gameplay.
if u jump off the hype train and take off your rose tinted glasses:
the only things good about PoE 2 right now are its graphics, performance and bosses
everything else either sucks or is just meh
PoE 2 right now is a 6/10 with potential to grow
i will play this for a while but definetly be back to PoE 1 and still have to finish Grim Dawn, both faaaaar superior games to this right now.
Diablo 4 is a joke and anyone who says otherwise is just sad at this stage still deluding that blizz makes good content still. PoE2 has some flaws right now but overall it feels great and even with its hiccups is gonna have a good future just being an upgrade of the first. It is alot more understandable now but still requires careful thought about your build and a lil bit of a learning curve but isn't nearly as hard to understand as the first was. OST so far has been fantastic, bosses are great and challenging. It's good.
Maybe I'll wait until it leaves early access.
I decided today that I'm going to put the game on hold for now, I haven't gotten a single decent item or even orb in two (!) days.
I realised the only way I can get better gear is by going to areas 10 levels lower than me so I can more or less one shot everything and clear the map quickly, get bunch of orbs and craft gear.
The fact I have to do that and I never ever backtracked to grind in any arpg speaks volumes how bad drop rates and itemisation is with awfully spongy mobs.
Sure if you enjoy that leveling phase which is designed in a way it shouldnt even exist, like diablo3.
Diablo IV has only set the psychological abusive standard, literally a 70€ game with tons of microtransactions and all items and their cosmetics look worthless and actually are, because you just sit on the mount and watch the minimap for 80% of the whole gametime.
The other times you just get 1 tapped out of life because you couldnt see what was going on.
Diablo IV is a mess straight up from the designtables.
The graphics, the effects, the mount, the mapdesign … nothing fits together.
POE1=Hard ARPG
POE2=Souls light RPG
Crafting and allowing you to min-max your weapons and armor so specifically was one of the worst things of any arpg.
I missed the loot chase and the high you get when something cool drops. Diablo 2 had a super simple crafting system but I enjoyed it the most out of any of these arpgs. Because it was hard to get.
PoE2 is still a ARPG but it is not a very good one
