GGG posted on their official YouTube asking for us to be gentle with them.
Not sales.
A ton of people got keys because they've spent more than $460/480 (whatever the value was) over the past 10+ years, on the game.
Still a big feat - just wanted to clarify a bit.
"A Message From President Jonathan of the United Exiles of Wraeclast, from the Great Streaming Couch."
whata crap director, how can you not anticipate people would want to play your game and plan ahead of time?? it seems to be a trend for gaming companies this year,
It's because it's a run away train of hype. They were expecting more like 300K-500K before their knock out announcement. At the time they thought that preparing for 1 million was safe but were working towards 2 million in serve capacity. Now anything is possible and they're not sure that's enough and have been working on getting more server capacity since. Jonathan has been worried since the PoE2 EA teaser reveal starting with the Q&A itself that immediately followed when he saw the crazy they caused. They knew then they were in trouble. lol
The big question since then has been can GGG keep up with purchasing server capacity in relation to exponential hype and key acquisition.
The message is a "better safe than sorry" "warn them beforehand" public relations thing in case it all goes to hell. Which it will cause waaaaay too much interest. :D
That's why I compared it to a Oval Office Presidential Address about how bad a dangerous Hurricane could be. It might work out, it may not. But make sure you're ahead of the curve in public relations.
I'm watching streams right now where the streamers are unprepared for the amount of people watching. Everyone's hitting their stream records with this EA release.
Companies have been underestimating demand since the dawn of live service gaming.
To be honest I think most people will not be able to play the game the whole weekend. Except for those Twitch influencers with their priority setting in the log-in queue.
even a year ago anyone could see this game would break some records, they better hope ratings arent allowed otherwise itll get negative rated badly while people are waiting forever to join, and they would deserve the ratings,
whatever your anticipation is, you get 3x server capacity. The damage from bad launches far outweighs the cost of those servers
