how do you get through the rat den?

im trying to jump across the gaps and it just wont do it
are there two entrances to this location or am i supposed to be able to jump the gaps that my character simply refuses to even when standing right at the edge.
even gaps that i can jump, when i try to jump over them again the character simply will refuse to do it, leading to me dying a couple times to a rolling boulder in the area just after the first town

what the hell am i doing wrong?

i figured it out

you have to extend your jump distance, which does not seem to be mentioned anywhere in the game.
and is less than intuitive.

i held L3 to bring up a large circle around my character and i could move a sword icon around inside it. the further away the icon was from my character, the larger the jump i will do

this fixed the rat den problem and other jumping problems

game says it fully supports controller, but only on a technical level. it doesnt seem like it was designed for it at all tbh.
and definitely the new user experience has suffered with devs assuming people will know all this stuff already.
