Necromancer, just how does he work?

Can anyone please explain to me how the summoning for the necro work. I can summon up to 7 pets, yet most the time i click to summon one nothing happens, it seems to only happen one in every 10 clicks possibly more until i have all 7 out. Is there something im missing here?

You need corpses after the first summon. Also the lvl 48 talent doesn't need a corpse either.

Here's a tip:
1. Summon your first pet
2. Stay away from your undead and use sacrifice (available at lv 36)
3. Use undead army again to summon 2 pets
4. Rinse and repeat till you have your full pet army.
