I kinda like it with no minimap always on top. With the map being so big I prefer to just tap the map to see where I want to go instead of leaving it open

But that will get you out of the way, open up a big map, and suddenly find out that there's a lot of equipment out there, which is very inconvenient

Havent played much with the update, but the little I've done I've been able to see the equipment on the ground without problems. I kinda have the habit of mashing select every few seconds aswell, that might be why it doesnt bother me that much

Ya i want the minimap back please. It helps find important items and to get a sense of direction with out having to hold a button down.

Press down on d-pad opens portal. Maybe something like press up for switching between map (mini, full and none)

you'll get to the point where nothing from mobs ups your stats anymore i perfer just to open the map when i need to.
