To be a bit more helpful, try to exploit their elemental weakness and make sure your gear and weapons are up to date (shuffle during crystal merging until to get the right stats).
About the strategy I used mainly Darion as a dps and Selene mainly as support. I started each wave sending Darion away and then retreating slowly towards the turrets.
PS: I cannot stress enough, especially on higher difficulties, how much difference it makes to mix max the equipment and always craft the newest weapons.
First time i perished. Thing is, we are conditioned to just roll over everything so far, not only that but i waited for the enemy.
So the second time i was more active, with both characters try to go kill the enemy, not only that, start from the sides. When only 1 monkey is left on each wave try to heal if you still have itens.
Last but not less important, they attack the machines a lot, so construct one each wave that will help you for some time. Good luck you can do it
And what do you mean by keeping gear updated? Only reasonable Armor I can find is with Nekaroos in the ground. All the crafting recipes for weapons and armor for Selene\Daryon are garbage, except 1 lvl 30 weapon per Selene\Daryon.(Done all side quests till Heretics Trail)
It's definitely the hardest fight in the game though, even harder than the final boss. The difficulty isn't even close to be being balanced in line with the rest of the game. If you're having trouble I'd probably just wait til you get your third character.
Darion usually is so fast with MAX SPEED items that he can do 2-3 turns before any other enemy, and some of his attacks are AoE (not many), so that helped cleaning stuff.
You could wait until third character joins team since the person attacks in an AoE, but I do think the enemies shouldn´t be able to snipe you to death from a range that you cannot retaliate against.
