uhh yeah they did explain it, the first time you complete a level on simple king dice says"Remember only a regular battle will let you collect a debtor's soul contract....Now scram."And don't you dare bring the devs into this. They spent 7 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years on this masterpiece because its your own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fault for not paying any attention and trying to take the easy way out.
BOOM, don't rush a game and skip dialog :)
It shjould be mentioned up front, not in some random piece of dialogue after ONE mission. We didn't do the first contract on simple, but they were really hard and we just wanted to experience the rest of the game. Stupid idea, and WOW, so what they spent 7 years developing it? You can spend a long time doing something and still make a mistake.

And even if you didn't read the message, you should have been at least a little bit curious why the boss wasn't checked off in some way, on your checklist

Even moreso, when you notice that the levels, after beating the one on the Normal difficulty, don't have this pop-up

Okay so if you can't get the contract and it's supposed to be hard, why include the simple mode anyway??? What is the purpose of having a "not really training" mode in the game that unlocks everything except the final boss? It's BAD DESIGN!
There is very little they could do, to even give King Dice or the Devil a simple difficulty.
"To give players a way to learn?"
Seriously? Either its a hardcore game or it isn't but giving players a "way to learn" that also lets them progress through the entire game EXCEPT the final boss is an insult and it is, in fact, bad design, because I'm here getting pissed off that I wasted a bunch of time going through this game because I might have clicked through a tooltip ONCE!
It isn't uncommon for games to have secret final bosses when playing on a higher difficulty. Super Smash Bros tends to do that.
All over again? You haven't cleared any of the stages on normal. Think of that as a practice run.
Think so? Simple changes might be increasing the number of bonus hearts in the dice game, and cutting down / removing the additional enemies in the Devil fight. I haven't touched Simple difficulty though so I'm not sure how watered-down it is.
