From what I can tell, Frontier have gone to lengths to make some themeing and pieces that can be applied to any theme that you want. For example in the way that Silvarett builds. He's created many different themes that don't exist in Planet Coaster simply by clever use of the pieces. I think this style of play has been noticed.
So what we will have now is the ability to build something modern with concrete and glass which is scary. And something traditional of wood which is also scary.
Rather than being restricted to a defined set of spooky pieces.
This really should mean many more unique designs.
its not out of the question that they will simply have backward compatibility. this is the same team that made all roller coaster 1 and 2 ride designs backward compatible for roller coaster tycoon 3. and that required a whole new set of code for porting isomorphic content to 3D graphics (in other words a lot more work than the direct import that this engine will most likely be capable of). they have been very limited on build details right now which is probably why they haven't announced this yet, either that or they want it to be a surprise. there is really no other reason why they intentionally avoided doubling up on themes as a design detail despite how popular some of the missing themes are. In other words the day 1 DLC might just be planet coaster 1 and all of its content, if you own it then you get the extra content, if not $145 please on top of the PC2 price for the full planet coaster experience.
p.s. this also explains why the simple Planco theme is included, because they would want to ensure that this theme was in the game regardless of whether you own PC1 to give all players the chance to use it even if they don't own the first game since it is basically the foundation theme.
