It's better than the old pathing tools but it's still fiddly as heck.
Yes that works for grid for normal paths. It does not however, work for queues; and on normal paths you cannot use that technique to follow a grid from the exit or entrance gates of a ride/station that is raised off the ground.
The new path tool is great with the expansion of abilities but one, it is so picky on placement. And two, we are missing great features from the original, like I mentioned, square edges and grid placement.
I love that they replaced one fidgety system with another.
