Map Size?
Am I missing something or is it literally impossible to expand your map size in Sandbox mode? How are we supposed to build those massive parks of our dreams if it seems smaller than any of the previous game map sizes?

I've played a shed load of hours an feel nowhere near map capacity, guess it depends on how spread out you want to be

sandbox just has the max map size from start i guess. no more available. I think its related to pop count and specs of PC. Mine is fast and just few weeks old, but with huge park it starts to hickup. i think thats the main reason (not related top ghrapics). I hjave I9 and 32 ram. SSD, should be enough

It could be that the scale is different? But you can't deny that the map LOOKS smaller. Like, way, WAY smaller. And you can't purchase more map space either, because it says 1/1 which is really weird, because you'd think that in sandbox, that would be maxed out?

Let's hope they will fix it someday or a mod

I don't think a mod can 'fix' this though? I mean, with the first PC there was never a mod to expand the map even further. Plenty of graphic mods and models and parks and so forth.

I'd imagine that maps would be hard coded?

This also a feeling i get, there is some weird (read diffrent, not bad or good) scaling going on. In career, i was actually a few times suprised, that i could put a ride in place, where i thought: "no way, this gonna fit" and i could place it easily, on prefabs i notice: "Hmmm, that looks small", but it was fine.

On my sandbox i was just expanding to the left at the start, and my pool is way tooo large since i couldn't hit the border. so yeah i know believe, that this is some optical thing, that the land looks smaller, but it actually is probably the size (if not bigger) from the pc1 sandbox.

I think it also may be that it's very decorated maybe? PC was just a flat map with minimal decoration around it...

As happy as I am to see an update coming in December, it would appear only the guest capacity is increasing, not the Sandbox map size :/

It's definitely smaller. I say this because in PC1 I liked to recreate real world parks in the game, and although had to be clever with the layouts, was generally able to fit a ~100 acre park, or so, within the game. With PC2, in Sandbox, I'm running out of room. Hopefully they offer a scenario editor at some point.

Genuinely baffled how you think the parks are small, am I the only one with a bunch of space left? I've been taking my time to make areas look nice but still.

It's possible the scaling is different from PC1. I used a flat track with height measure and counted 49 sections at 65.62 ft long in PC1 ~ 3265 ft long. In PC2, I came up with ~48 sections at 66 ft ~ 3168 ft long.

So, I may stand corrected! BUT a scenario editor, or way to at least move the spawning points like we had in PC1 would be great.

Nah it does feel incredibly small. Especially if you want a park with multiple themes and a ton of unique attractions.

I just think that with modern technology, building a park where you could buy more and more space should be not only realistic, but actually doable?

I mean, if you can't run a larger park, you have at least the option to ehm, not expand?

Let's say, default space is, for the sake of the argument, a five by five km space (replace it with miles if you use that, just for tha sake of the argument, okay?

Now, let's say you can expand it in any direction with a one by one square? So, for the peeps who want bigger parks... They could expand forever basically? Ofcourse, modern pc's still have their limits, especially with decorating and I already heard of fps drops NOW, let alone if it might be expanded with map size...

Still, you can't do wrong by making it optional.

Ok, did some work and compared (thx to fixed length paths not so hard), both in Tropical Sandbox. PC1: around 890x740 meter, PC2: around 970x960 meter.

So, the answer why for example YouTubers didn't mentione this: Easy, cos it's not true, the maps are NOT smaller, they are indeed a bit bigger.

People always gotta find a reason to hate and then others latch onto the hate train. Good work on checking it to prove it to them.

Sad thing is they'll still cry it's smaller.
Kingdark Nov 13, 2024 @ 9:21am
Okay, so it's bigger. That doesn't change that it LOOKS smaller or gives the IMPRESSION it's smaller. Scaling is a thing too. I'd bet that if it were possible to 'shrink' assets by a third, that the maps would look huge.
