I'm starting to doubt, here's why
When the game was announced, I did a little happy dance. But the closer we get to the release, the more I begin to doubt. In their content on YouTube, they mainly show how quickly you can build a park. The tool brush and the new pad system are very valuable in that regard. On the other hand, I find what they've shown so far rather limited. Here's a summary:

The number of themes: Four themes have been shown. I find this very few for the base game. The 'water' theme feels quite plastic and therefore lacks atmosphere. The themes are good enough for an average American amusement park, not much better than the Six Flags level of detail and immersion. It's still very superficial. I'm left wondering if you can create a park in the details and ambiance of places like Disneyland, Efteling, Phantasialand, etc.

Terrain tool: Is there any improvement here? I haven't seen anything yet. This tool hasn’t given me any wow factor.

No hotels/restaurants: Why isn’t this included in the base game? This is essential for creating atmosphere and depth in a park, especially since they mentioned it’s becoming more of a management game.

Speaking of management: Features have been added to focus more on management tasks. Honestly, I’m not looking forward to this. Electricity/water supply, with ugly facilities in your park that you have to figure out how to hide. A game must have a fun-factor, not a feeling of being at work. Speaking of fun: hotels and restaurants would definitely provide that feeling and offer something to manage.

Pools & slides: A large part has focused on water slides and pools. Overall, it looks good, but as Silvarret pointed out: peeps don’t really slide down the slides because the tubes aren’t curved. It looks awkward.

I purchased the deluxe version, but I'm still not completely convinced by what they’ve shown, primarily because the themes feel too limited and superficial.

Here is just some of the features missing from the game. There is a lot of requested features and features from PC1 that has not been shown. With the release only days away its safe to assume that these are missing from the game.

-Security Guards, Missing.
-Themes. Missing.
-Shops, Missing.
-Mascots, Missing
-Hotels, Missing
-Shop management replaced with vegan and gluten nonsense. (I hate this with a passion)
-Staff only paths

Highly requested features not in game

-Management is absent and dumbed down. We wanted this significantly expanded and we has seen virtually nothing that is new or improved. The power addon for example is just pointless. Plop a building and forget about it.
-Coaster Station upgrade to inc multiple stations.
-Arcades
-Mini golf / Crasy golf
-Ride photo booths
-Back stage areas
-Transportation management and car parks

Water park additions
-No slides physics simulation
-Boats and rubber dinghies just disappear.
-Lack of water park rides and games.

The game has not been shown off by Frontier at all, Its all been very shady and the community game play has also been severely restricted. Why advertise a game and not show it off.

Aside from having more usable themes and opening up the game to custom scenery items and more, One thing I'd like to see more of is the trigger timeline tool. What can we do with it. Will it have the features like it does in RCT3. Will there be trigger-able fireworks? trigger-able water jets? Will be be able to edit those? Will the fountains glow at night or can we light them up? other sfx to be used around the parks?

The surprise factor. Just because they haven't shown certain things doesn't mean they're not in the game, unless they've announced 100% that such a thing won't be in the game's launch, as they have done with the restaurants and hotels. And I honestly predict we'll get DLC where we can see much more advanced customization when building restaurants, unlike Planco 1, which was a box where darkness reigned.

For sure there are trigger-able water jets as we have seen numerous videos already of that. I don't think it's good news on the glowing water fountains though as the Viking dark ride they showed off had a fountain in it but it was almost impossible to see...just like the first game, light just did not light it up. This is a real problem for making dark rides and Frontier needs to FIX this anyway they can. I don't care if they have to kind of fake it or rewrite and patch their engine. You gotta be able to light up water somehow. It is just too limiting to not be able to.

I don't think we have seen fireworks in the game yet, which is curious. As we have seen smoke, fire and all sorts of other effects.

Don't know if we can put our own sound effects into the game. I sure hope so. Also I haven't seen the ability to put little video screens with GIFS playing on them either like Planco 1 had. Those need to be in there. So I am a little worried about that.

Updates exist.

These things should be in the game at launch. I'm tired of buying incomplete games and hoping I get the opportunity to buy DLC to add content that should have been there already. Anyone else?

If they really had to be there, they're there, or they're not there and people won't buy the game...

Most of the current games are incomplete, even more so than Planco 2. I don't care about that in this case. Look, I've been asking for this sequel for years and now that it's here I'm not going to waste the opportunity, my desire is above all those things that are "missing". I'm tired of Planco 1 and its limitations, as well as its terrible optimization. At least Planco 2 seems to be better optimized.

So a park builder without even Security Guards is acceptable in 2024? A sequel is supposed to improve, not regress by stripping half of the games content out of it to sell as future content.

My god, Why not just ship the game with 1 flat ride, 1 coaster and 1 shop and charge a fee for each additional feature or piece of content.

No wonder the games industry is in a mess.

It is not planet coaster 2 it is planet coaster console ! no grass, horrible ground textures, same game as PC1 with water slides that were not even done properly. The game was held back and downgraded to sell on console.

But what are you saying when you've pre-ordered the game? Also, is 100% secure that there being no security guards? There are a lot of things in the game that haven't been shown but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

And honestly, looking at the landscape of theme park games we have, there's no other option than to go with Planco 2. Unless you want to stick with Planco 1, its limitations and its poor performance.

Well, you'll always have Rollercoaster Tycoon World, that game wasn't incomplete, eh?

I only pre ordered early on to secure the pay walled pre order rides. I would not have bothered otherwise.

I have the option to refund on launch day so I am waiting to see whats in the game and what it has to offer before making the final decision to refund. At the moment though a refund looks highly likely to be the outcome.

I do not believe Frontier are hiding content but I guess we will find out for sure in the coming days. The problem with Frontier is that they refuse to communicate with the community.

Other games I have in the Theme park builder series are:-

- Theme Park (1994) Dos version. Still great to this day and still one of the best.
- RCT series.
- Parkitect.
- Park Studio

I am happy top go back to playing these instead if PC2 is a failure.

Those attractions will be in a DLC later on, there's no point in pre-ordering the game if you don't trust the company and that the game is going to be what we've been asking for for years. I have it pre-ordered because I like what I've seen so far and also to support the company and make this sequel the best sequel in the series.

Right now no one has the right to say "this isn't going to be there" since we don't have the final version of the game in our hands. I don't care about the communication that this company has, the surprise factor exists and I understand that they're not going to show you everything the game has so as not to ruin the first gameplay experience.

I've seen more than enough of those games you've mentioned. The RCT saga was legendary in its day, but I've put so many hours into it that I'm already tired of it, plus they are old games where one cannot freely build a park like in the Planet Coaster saga, due to the old technology of those games, plus none of them are at the level of Planet Coaster, but that's just my opinion.

What everyone should do is not pre order or buy day 1. Wait for gameplay videos and whatnot then make a choice
Remkoning Oct 31, 2024 @ 12:59pm
Hmm, I posted this yesterday morning, since then, there’s been a lot of new footage available; Deep Dive 4, IGN showed something, and there was a livestream here on Steam. After seeing this, I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised, and some questions/critical points have already been addressed. Now we just have to wait for November 6th. Can't wait!
