Is this game hard to get into?
By hard to get into I mean the building aspect and the controlling aspect.

200 ish hours in and still learning but enjoying every minute so id say yes but dont be put off, so long as you prepared to curb your ambition and learn it bit by bit you should be fine.

The learning curve isn't too high, but it is a bit high. It's not Dwarf Fortress levels of learning cliff. There is basic tutorials in the game as well as tons of vanilla designs you can look at for study. Once you understand how all the custom blocks works, like custom cannons, it becomes quite easy to build and you can very quickly build a ship.

It's not that hard... when you first open the designer you'll be staring dumbfounded, if you're anything like me, but after playing around and watching some youtube tutorials you'll be fine!

lol... the hardest thing is trying to make a hull that doesn't sink!

When I first got the game, I sat in my Starting boat and didn't know what to do.

I then went to youtube and watched some videos and tutorials, even here on steam there are very good guides for it. It took me a few hours before I knew the basics like how to even build at all, camera movement and stuff. I started to check the disscusions here on steam and on the forum and learned alot of things just by people asking for advice. I do now know alot of stuff for the game (still can't build pretty ha).

So if you are interested in the game just read and watch stuff, you will learn it.

Also watchout out on youtube and the guides, they could be outdated. It changed alot over the last months :P

It does have a learning curve, further when you first start the game, it can be intimidating. I would suggest if you're thinking of trying the game, watch some turtorials on youtube.

As an adult with work obligations, I found it very easy to pick up. There is some learning curves here and there, but it takes very little time for everything to sorta just click.

Depends on how well you take it up. Sometimes it may just seem impossible but other times it's really easy.

its a little hard, basic ship with weapons, fortresses... those are easy,
building an engine, once you figure out the best build method, its simple
guns, still learning a bit and tweaking, but i have a single cannon ship that can take most of the threats the first faction can throw at you

cannons are a bit hard, but powerful to learn
missiles are a little harder, but once you get it simple to make large arrays
lasers are currently the biggest pain in the ass right now to work with, mostly due to how the line of site connectors work.

from there, building a plane isn't to much a challenge,
helicopters are a bit harder
subs are as of now for me a nightmare as everything i am doing is kind of failing...

over all. i would say about an hour spent on each to learn how they work is all you need, and its really satisfying when even your failures rip through enemies.

Fairly normal to learn, not easy, not hard, but it is difficult to master Im sitting here now "sciencing" engines. Ive Already beaten the deep water guard (the starting opponent) and im still getting my head around A LOT of the details of being efficient with my designs.

Dont let it put you off though, its currently by far my fav game and it is eating my time :D

If you have basic skills in any kind of game like this, you'll be fine.

It took me about an hour to just make a working engine on a small raft. The ingame documentation is great for showing you what components do what and what makes up an engine for example. I'm loving it so far though. Now i just need to figure out how to spawn in the first enemy. I have a ship with a couple of cannons on it and nothing to shoot!

escape, lower right there is an enemy gui thing, click that button and it brings up an easy way to span multiple enemies

or press x, deep water guard is a good faction to test your ships against if you're new
