Liberated a region in May, now what?
This veteran campaign is going really well so far. Liberation on the first region done in May (in fact it was done so early it actually bugged out the Avatar Project’s timer due to the HQ destroying the only pip that had accumulated.

Everything in the campaign is going very well. Got my lab built on the first coil and about to put my relay on the second. Have the liberated region all running supply with no faceless, mag weapons are researching, pred done, etc. Have a lot of good soldiers and none have died so far (hell, the HQ is the only mission that had substantial wounds).

So here we are, only a couple pips on the doom clock, a liberated region, but it’s FAR too early for anything golden path. What should I be doing here? My only guess is to try and raise global vigilance as high as possible to slow down all future Avatar progress, but I’m worried about getting overwhelmed by the strength increases those bring (especially the super emergency reinforcement UFOs)

Imho LW 2 has 3 phases.

Phase 1: rebel phase
You start with a couple of regions and try to liberate your first region so you can build up your forces.

Phase 2: expansion (where you are now)
You should focus on expanding your resistance. Contact and liberate additional regions and expand your way toward the black site and avatar facilities. Build up your economy, troops and technology and prioritize landed ufo missions (it's a hack/rescue mission with only 1 visible reward) and missions that reduce the strength of advent. Global vigilance is countered by advent legions so killing legions is IMHO a better focus than spiking vigilance.

Phase 3: finish

At this stage your soldiers should be well leveled and well equipped and all you have to do is finish the remaining story missions. Your economy has done its job and you no longer need to do any non story missions. You can even ignore invasions and let advent retake your liberated regions if you want to. The later might be useful because half of the invading regions strength moves to the new region making it more exposed to your forces.

It won't matter if advent retakes all regions they can no longer stop you.

One strategy I enjoy for the mid game is psi haven advisors.
The psi room is quite cheap in this mod and if you make a couple of officers by trial by fire and have the psi operatives learn easy skills then you can make a army of disciple psi operatives quite easily.

And they are amazing faceless hunters (almost as good as master sergeants) with room for growth. Making all your regions faceless free means you will have less retaliations and longer mission timers.

I gather landed UFO missions (not had one yet myself) look basically the same as Lib1 missions, when they come up.

Indeed, except even a VIP rescue is a landed ufo mission if it do not reward a Intel package

By the time you've liberated your first region, you should have contacted two other regions. Work to expand your intel in the two other regions so you can liberate one or both of them. I usually try to liberate the one closer to the Blacksite region. At the same time, you should be running missions to obtain more resistance workers, scientists, engineers, and intel. Do as many Smash and Grab and Troop Columns that you can (have good infiltration timers).

The middle game is essentially about building up your base, your tech, and troopers while trying to expand towards the Blacksite region.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Time to end the game.

Liberated another region in August, then destroyed 2 Avatar facilities and did the golden path missions. The snowball from early liberation was so much there wasn’t really anything ADVENT could do to stop me.

That is the advantage of pulling of a early liberation.

Liberation missions spawn a month later on legendary to counter that so it is one of the advantages a lower dificulty grant.

Good luck with the last mission. When I did it, the total ammount of enemies was over 100.
