Psi Ops?
Hey so I finally got to train my first Psi Operative, but it keeps telling me that I can train additional abilities in the Psi lab, but he wont appear in the drop down list when I go to try and train him. Any idea what Im supposed to do?

Get more experience to him in missions and he'll be able to learn new skills. Pretty much he learns new abilities by "promotions"

False. Psi Ops do NOT level with battle experience. The psi op's training is also put on hold during recovery from wounds.

From what I can tell, I can only train them when they have played mission or two and gained experience.

Psi ops dont gain anything on missions, unless something has changed that i am not aware of.

Using any mods?

That's the important question. Vanilla, you just have to stuff em in the tank until they have all the abilities.
But if you play long war, you need to take them out on missions.

Oh right! Yeah sorry, forgot to mention Im playing LongWar 2, if I just gotta take 'em on missions then that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks!

There are many things that have very different answers depending on whether you're playing vanilla or LW2. Please remember, and preferably post in the right place.

To clarify: In LW, you need to take Psi Operatives on missions to get the XP they need for promotions. However, unlike other classes, they do not auto-level up at the end of the mission when they earn a promotion. (*) After they've earned the promotion via missions, then you can assign them back to the Psi Lab for additional training.

* I haven't noticed, so I'm not sure if they get the level up stat boosts automatically, or if that happens during/after additional Psi Lab training.

Ah, ok. Sorry about that, but thanks for telling me, I'll be sure to direct my questions regarding LW, there then.

Either way, thank you for the info, I think I've got the answers I need. :steamhappy:

Can you only get a limited number of abilities, or is it just taking a really long time to earn levels so I can get them all like in Vanilla?

You only get your starting set, plus one per level. You only level up as many times as any other unit. However, each time you level up, you get the choice of three like you do in vanilla.

Psi ops become eligible to train up in the Psi lab after they've gained experience on missions. You can't just leave them in the lab, leveling up. They have to go out on missions to be eligible to train up.

I had one Psi-op who was eligible to train up by when I tried to send her to the lab, there would be no skills in the pop-up window, but other psi-ops could train up fine. After a while, it was possible to train her up again. I don't know if it was a temporary glitch or maybe she just needed a little more field experience before she could level up again.

So I'm playing a retro LW2 pre-WOTC. And I'm having this issue. I HAVE had people on multiple missions, but still cannot train them in the PSI lab. It's TELLING ME I can...but it still says 'no rookies or psi-operatives available to train'. They have earned promotions. and are still the ranks they had when they came out of the Psi Lab 3 promotions later.

You must train actual rookies without awaiting promotions.

Earning a promotion, even one you don't act upon, prevents you from training them as psi op.

Conditions for lab training are either
[rookie]
[already trained psi operator with a promotion]
