Ranger (heavily mobile overwatch specialist)
1 Ever Vigilant
2 Covering Fire
3 Cool Under Pressure
4 Executioner
5 Bring 'em On
6 Rapid reaction
7 Combat Fitness

Extremely strong with high aim and put behind flanking positions of almost everything using Ever Vigilant every turn. Flanked ennemies go kamikaze for most part - thus trigger reaction shot with critical damage almost guaranteed. It basically comes down to advent deciding who goes first. Kill Zone appears great but its activation looks buggued to me so better increase the overall stats of the ranger. Rapid reaction DE, Viper and Archon are a bad pick against this guy. Won't do anything against MEC as they usually don't move. But Light 'Em Them Up and his really high aim will have its use too. Fortify or Suppression could be an alternative but this guy usually has the most def already thanks to PCS. AWC perk to look for: Aggression, Lone Wolf, Lethal, Hunter's Instincts, Deadshot, Shredder, Center Mass, Tactical Sense or Grazzing Fire. Serial with an officer Command can become an incredible combo when used at the right time (situational but actually rather frequent)

That was the other major line for the Ranger i was looking at. The thing that made me reluctant was the lighting reflexes and shawdow step perks that are spiced among certain advent an alliens. I also persoanlly have a playstyle that hates reactive play instead of proactive. How much trouble has the anti overwatch perks given you from that path? I know i almost grabbed fitness over rupture myself, the last tier for the Ranger seems pretty lackluster IMO.

Before 1.4 nerf it meant certain death to at least one advent and many many shots at the others. Since 1.4, 2 miss on 3. Vipers and Lancer could potentially negate a whole turn. Thing is they were forced to move. That itself is a tactical advantage.

But my pure pod killer, at least before 1.4, working in tandem with any area demolisher, I had was this guy. And the strongest area demolisher actually is Heavy weapon oriented Spark, Rocket tactician is second to it (although it allows for 2 uses so you could say it is better in a sense)

Assault
1 any pick what you want (I would go Electroshock because the build allows for it)
2 any pick what you want (I would go Arc Pulser because the build allows for it)
3 any pick what you want (I would go Stun Gunner because the build allows for it)
4 Aggression
5 any (I would go Rapid Fire because this is a really strong perk in many many situations - not even accounting for the massive stun cases the build offers)
6 Bring 'Em On
7 any (I would go Chain Lightning because the build allows for it)

AWC: faceoff (mandatory)

Items: highest tech gun, Talon round.

This thing was so powerful that they nerfed it hard. But it still packs a punch. Wait for a large pod to come, such as the commanding pod and unleash the fury. Or stun lock everything, move to flank position on most and throw critical Faceoff to everything. I wiped countless raids this way in the past.

You can still achieve kind of the same with a Rocket Tactician + Salvo + Heavy weapons in a single turn and with a single guy (twice due to heavy armor)

Be aware that the way LW2 1.4 revised the pods, pod annihilators are not as useful.

I have wanted to try a stun gun assult. I think if i hadnt buffed the ranger sword accuracy, i would have swapped my Shinobi to the rapid fire clean up and moved Asualts to the stun gun line. Im currently thinking about swapping lighting reflexs for electroshock anyway. Ive personally not been much a fan of pod wipe tactics myself, if you look at my set ups I prefer heavy single target dmg with some lockdown to keep survivers pinned. Left overs from the style I found playing Enemy Unknown.

There's some skills I get pretty much every time but one of the big joys of Long War for me has been the variety.

I've switched the ability to see AWC skills on, too, so I can make even more interesting things.
For instance, I've got a sniper that has Run & Gun from the Assault class. Naturally she's using the Snap Shot style. VERY deadly but a bit scary, too, as she can easily wake up other pods when sweeping out for a long flank shot. A good stealth-shinobi can help with that.

I've got a grenadier with Guardian, Covering Fire, and Grazing Fire that can really do serious damage on overwatch.

The variety can actually be a bit of a pain sometimes. "Oh wait, does that shinobi have Shadowst..." PEW!!! *facepalm*

It's a better strategy with the latest version but before you could deal a great amount of damage to a 12 pod in one turn (with two guys you annihilate the whole pod in a turn with a bit of luck)

@Zloth totaly agree. For instance Rapid Response on an OW sniper is well you know what I mean. I' editing the hidden options to be able to see the whole tree to decide which build go for each of them. Knowing only the first perk is unconstructive in that regard.

I have a mixed feeling about Lone Wolf though, except for a few builds (OW Ranger obviously is must have - can negate the use of SPC so could chose a different one then) that will always be far from the rest of the group. I observed that most often I don't scater enough for the bonus to proc (there are a few mods that help you know when the perk is active)
