XCOM 2
Final Mission
I just been through my second completion of the basegame. Did rookie first, and now veteran. XCOM2 is the first game in over 20 years that I actually played on the easiest setting first. It took me 93 hours to complete the game twice. In this last time on veteran, I lost 14 soldiers, 4 missions, and had 1 flawless mission.
I am happy to say I made a progress in the sense that I can now play missions with only a few saves needed in between where I reset to not get flanked by enemies, or just made the wrong move and want to replay it.

With that being said: I am curious about the last mission. As on easy, I found it difficult, and my gut feeling told me the reinforcements at the last avatar section would be endless.

If you bypass the idea of cleaning PODS one at a time, it is not so difficult anymore. The first avatar I whacked outright before the 2nd showed up, and then the 2nd and 3rd I hunted down while my soldiers took dmg all over the place because I didnt clear the PODS anymore.

Is this the way to do it? Or is there a point where you can just kill every mofo in the room and do the Avatars last?
Because this is what you would normally do, due to their mobility, if reinforcements weren't endless.

The reinforcements never stop pouring in, no matter the difficulty. While there will be opportunities to thin the crowds to help give yourself some breathing room, doing so should be a secondary objective for yourself.

As you guessed, all that really matters is taking down those three avatars. Also making sure you the commander don't die, but mostly that first one.
The moment the third one goes down it's total victory for you, game over for Advent, roll credits and here's your high score.

I setup the first area as a Base where I have the Sniper, Support, Gren and Com. I have the Rangers mobile attacking either the Avatar or whoever gets close to Base. All units with MindShield. If you attack the Avatar it will most likely teleport in Base so use that to your advantage.

It's better to spread out to counter Avatars' teleportation, focus on the Avatars and killing everything else only as collateral damage, because reinforcements never stop and the game ends when the 3rd Avatar is killed.
As the others clearly state: The pods just don't stop coming. Your only priority aside from keeping the Commander alive, is to take out the Avatars by any and all means at your disposal. Part and parcel of this to to have your squad tooled up to the nines with every last advantage you can give them, and then use it! This includes using things like combat protocol from your specialists on the avatar just to force relocate them when they're in an entrenched position and you can't get a decent shot off, or rushing a bladestorming ranger with the implacable trait into that pod of crysalids to draw all the enemy attacks, leaving the rest of your squad free to move and shoot etc. The sacrifice plays can and do become an unwelcome necessity in that last mission, so make them count!
