Tactical Legacy pack is neat but is also a separate thing from the main game
All of it adds to the main game in some way and all of it ultimately makes it better.
Though the tactical Legacy pack requires you to play though it on its own (to a rank of silver) to get it's extra stuff added to the game. Though a lot of that extra stuff is very worth it.
Playing though it however could work as a good introduction to how the combat side of things play out and just how hard it is going to try and kick your behind. This game is closer to Aliens than it is Star Trek.
But to truly appreciate the game, you have to first have played through the vanilla game, then move on to Long War (of the Chosen for XCOM2, or LW for XCOM EU/EW). Both are different, but similarly good. It adds depth, adds difficulty, but adds numerous tactical options and intense fights that don't get replicated in vanilla XCOM.
Hmm, i would be biased and say get the collection but because your not familiar with it, maybe just the base game. How much do you know about this game? Its turn based combat, do you enjoy that style? Lots and lots of aliens in this game, so theres that for you.
Do you enjoy playing games where you need to use different tactics and abit of micro managing your squad to get the best out of it? You will be doing this, the game offers alot with modding the squad with tech and abilities.
Its honestly great if you enjoy doing it and feel that reward from it but if your not into this, then maybe a pass on this.
WOTC is like the definite Xcom2 experience. its the full story with every aspect fleshed out. adds Hero units for the player. 3 nemesis type bosses that show up randomly on missions that you have to track down and kill in their lair, zombie hordes essentially. and Covert missions you can send your iddle troops on for extra loot and sabotage.
Shens legacy adds a single really fun mission for the early game and gives the player access to the SPARK. which is a big Robot trooper thats a lot of fun to use.
You can get Alien rulers if you want some extra challenge but in all honestly its not that great a DLC.
Xcom in itself is very challenging and can on ocation make you rip out your hair when your troops miss a 97% hit.
But at the same time its very rewarding and rewards calcualted risks and trial and error.
And to top off the Modding scene is excellent gives so much replayabiltiy and personal customization, making every playthrough very unique.
Edit: i just looked up the price. Just get the whole collection tbh. its 7,5 eur. well worth it and you wont get a better deal than that.
