Legend or Commander difficulty?
It is going to be my first time.

I have started playing it on Legend difficulty and I am not able to pass the first mission.

I have though that maybe I should try Legend mode because Legend requires ceartinly level or equipment that I have not got yet.
Maybe Legend is a difficulty for a NG+ but not for start from zero.

So, is it possible to play on Legend from zero or directly I should choose Commander for playing my first time?

Why would you start with highest difficulties if it's your first time? Try veteran or rookie to familiarize yourself with the mechanics and enemies.

Legend is the highest difficulty, not commander. Apart from the legacy equipment there's no unlockable gear or level requirements. The only barrier to certain difficulties is how well you know the game.

You should start with veteran. If you then want a bigger challenge, try veteran ironman, and then the following difficulties.

Choose Legend and enable Grim horizon, very new player friendly for learning the game.

If you're admitting to having trouble playing it on Commander, why would you think to then switch to Legendary?
That's the single hardest option outside of mods :steamfacepalm:.

I also have no idea what you mean by "Commander requires certainly level or equipment that I have not got yet."
No matter what difficulty you start on you will do so at the same level with the same equipment. What changes is how hard the enemies are to defeat and how much the game will punish any mistakes.

As above.

I had to edit the mistake, the highest is Legend.

Then, I can play on Legend beacuse there is not any kind of barrier.
By trial and error, I'll get it.
I wanted to be sure that it was not a level matter.

Yes, it is possible to start legend and finish. It's always a clean start with no NG+.

I was referring to, for example, any RPG that launches a DLC which requires a certain level to be overcome.

That definitely doesn't happen in XCOM 2.
Thanks to all for your answers.

That makes a little bit more sense. Trying to play this game on Legend for the first time is like trying to learn to swim, with lead shoes on.
It's not impossible, but you will likely need a lot of tries.

Closest thing we have to that is playing though the legacy operations and getting at least silver in each to unlock some new stuff for the game. Though most of it is cosmetic items and the rest are some sidegrade weapons.

If you're playing legendary on your first playthrough, you're going to lose. Unless you've been scouring the internet for Xcom strategy there are just things about the game that you're not going to know that are going to set you up for failure. 1st time through play rookie or veteran. Xcom has a reputation for being a difficult game for a reason. There is plenty of challenge for a brand new player even on rookie level.

I think I should start a new game on commander.
Playing on Legend I feel that is was not my bad, when I fail twice shots in a row face to face with enemy.

It is really tedious and slow play on Legend, I will try a bit more with fast move option.
I think I know what I need to do, but it means take it really easy, so easy that it could become to be bored.

Anyway, I should check commander mode for getting an idea.

Fair warning, playing on any difficulty will do nothing to help you hit with a point blank shot. Combat in this game is maths, probability vs possibility and strategy (with more maths).
If a shot isn't 100% chance to hit, then it can miss. Getting closer simply gives up to a +10% to hit and if that isn't enough to reach 100% then you should always have a plan in place that assumes it misses so you know what you intend to do next.

Never go into a fight with your only plan being "all my shots should hit". That just leads to getting angry.

If you play this game - for the first time -on any other difficulty than the easiest, you're a masochistic fool. This is one of the hardest, most unforgiving games ever made.

It is not the point.
The difference between the two modes is very, very, disproportionate.

I have just prove on "commander mode" and I did it at first try.

I have tried on "Legend mode a dozen times, there are more enemies than "commander", specially a naked enemie that respawns death enemies and colapse your partnets.
I was really close to complete the level, but the last horde kill me.

Anyway, this is the first mission before enter your base and upgrade your soldiers, so, maybe this mission is so hard because my soldiers only can do the basics.
Maybe if I pass this mission things are getting easier.

Like I said, the difference between the two modes is disproportionate.
On "commander" is too much easy, on "Legend" it is too much hard.
The only thing I can do is to continue checking the two modes and then I will decide which one I choose.

One question.

Playing without "iron man mode", I finished the mission with a soldier death, I guess I lost him forever, no way for retry the mission or come back, I guess soldier is lost forever, or not?
or it is because of "iron man mode" that not allowed you to load a backup or retry mission for coming back to play with this same lost soldier?
