X-Com 2 Long War of the Chosen
2nd mission already, capture advent commander, time limit, if you fail, you lose to game. Way to go to encourage players to save scum. For the record, I have finished vanilla X-Com 1, X-Com 2 and have played a lot of original X-coms.

Notice I recommend mods or youtube to see the difference between the games. It does have a stupid learning curve that makes you go wait I lost quite a bit. Not as hard as frost punk but can give that same rage.

Also please make sure you point out in the OP that you are complaining about the difficulty of a Mod desgined to make an already difficult game more diffcult.

And yes I agree that combination you got is awful but its not unwinnable and doesnt need save scumming. Especially if it is only the second mission.

Actually, I play LWotC quite a bit, and I have never seen a mission like OP is describing. Capturing an enemy commander? You mean a VIP, or an enemy unit? Because 'commander' implies you're trying to capture something that is shooting back at you while you're trying to capture it. But capturing a VIP is easy enough, get rid of the entourage, walk up beside the VIP, you get a special Subdue attack, do that, pick them up, get to exfil, done. It may not be easy, but it's doable. IIRC, it's not even necessary to capture, you can just kill them too (for less reward).

But losing the war because you didn't get the commander? That doesn't happen, not instantly. Fail the mission and just go back to base to lick your wounds. Your troops may be in terrible shape, bad enough you feel like it's not worth continuing, but that's different from just slamming into a Game Over screen.

Either OP is exaggerating, misrepresenting, or just didn't understand the mission they were given. Because that doesn't happen.

Long war of the chosen is a patched together collaboration by many different modders to update long war 2 (mod made by really good modders but only for the base game because they went off to develop their own games now). So it's a hodgepodge of ♥♥♥♥ thrown together and made pretty sloppily, and also long war mods increase the difficulty tenfold.

There are also mods/settings to increase timed missions. I always increase mine as I don't want to feel rushed as I enjoy the game play, that's why I've played LWOTC because it has tons of misions, in fact too many that you start to get bored from repeating the same ones over and over.

If I remember that mission correctly, its not a capture mission, its a kill mission before he can escape the map.

Are you trying to post feedback about a game mod? If so, you'll have better luck posting on, you know, the mod's actual forums.

I think its the Capture rhe General mission.

Ive seen it in both Covert Infiltration and Long War. I was playing a modded vanilla when I saw it so I cant confim if it is a vanilla mission.

Basically its Caputre the VIP but the target is a powered up Advent Captain. It runs to an evac zone when activated.

-----

Like you Ive never seen one that is immediate campaign fail. Actually dont know of any.

Such mission was removed in LWOTC, its straight up impossible to have it, if you can still have it then something is seriously wrong with your mods. LW2 also removed things like losing regions on banal stuff so failing any mission doesnt cause instant failure. The only 3 ways to lose LWOTC is 1) Avatar, 2) UFO 3) Chosen Avenger showdown

Yeah thats what I thought. But people asked what the mission was further up so I thought I would clarify since the OP didnt.

And honestly its one of my favorites since it gives corpses and it far easier than VIP most of the time.

OP is exaggerating or misunderstood, you do not lose the game if you fail the mission. Avenger Defenses and the final missions are basically the only "win or game-over" condition missions (and Gatecrasher), everything else is just a relatively minor setback in your progress in the grand scheme of things. Also if it's an Advent Commander it's not a capture, it's a kill mission.
The Pollie Aug 16, 2022 @ 4:39pm
Gatecrasher?

If you lost Gatecrasher, then you either made some hilariously stupid misplays or gambled on RNG and lost. Either way, just restart. Takes like a minute, it's right at the start of a campaign, no real time was lost.

Newbie here. Doing my first WotC campaign. So, as I understand, I can encounter these Chosen bosses in any mission? Do they remain in the mission until the end or they will flee the battle after some time just like Alien Hunter DLC bosses did in my vanilla XCom 2 campaign?
