XCOM 2

Xcom 2 disc version / Download
As i wasn't able to find those informations:

When I buy xcom2 in a shop as disc version, I know I'll probably have to activate it on steam. But am I able to install and play via disc or do I have to download and activate the game (like fallout 4 for example) first? Took me a whole day to download with my slow connection.

also there won't be a way to play before release? (a shop near my place usually hands out a game a few days before release, but (again) f4 wasn't unlocked until official release, they said with luck they'll get the game tomorrow already, but if it's locked it won't make any sense to buy that early ;)

The disk prolly has like 34MB of data.

Yup, like Deputy said, the disc will only contain a small portion of the game. It will then refer you to Steam to download and install the rest of the game. It might save you a small amount of installation time, but will not actually allow you to avoid downloading the bulk of the game.

Even if it has multiple discs that have most of the game on, you have to activate with Steam and download the remainder, and any day 1 patches, before the game can be played.

Disc versions usually carry the majority of a game on them. You'll still need the day one patches or anything that came between the game "going to press" and release.

After it's installed the disc is then put back in it's box and not used until you want to reinstall it again.

There are those that find the concept of disc versions alien but those of us that arent in areas supported by the connections required to download a hefty game in a reasonable time actually find them useful. And in a lot of cases disc versions are actually cheaper than buying digital.

This game won't have the majority on disc unless it's on several discs...

Too bad in my country, it's the opposite. :( I don't know how they manage the prices.

In my country it's even possible to order (the cheaper) retail versions from other countries, that's why I still buy physical versions, if the packages contain anything worthwhile.

The Xcom 2 physical copy has 4 disks. I believe these have the majority, if not all of the game on them. You are able to install without downloading from the internet, although you will still need to authenticate the game key.

Why no digital deluxe upgrade option for retail purchases? Unfortunately some people still only have the option to buy the disc because of crappy internet. It would be nice if there was an option to download the deluxe addons instead of the whole game.
