Character Pool
I noticed in some YouTube videos that randomly generated characters are still in the game, is there a way to ONLY use characters from your character pools?

Probably not, at least not in the vanilla version of the game. Since the player can determine the class and rank of each character that they add to their character pool, removing all of the randomized soldiers could result in imbalancing the game.

An insufficiently large pool of player-made characters might also result in seeing the same character pop up multiple times in the span of a single campaign, especially if that campaign is a bloody one.

The randomly generated characters serve to fill in the "gaps", rounding out the selection of characters available at any given time.

Well I haven't seen a YouTuber make a ton of characters in the character pool, so the game must make random chars to fill for it, since alone in XCOM HQ there are like 10 Recruits sitting around that you can recruit. Then engineers and so on and so on. My guess is, if you have a pool of like +100, the game has no need of making random chars, since there are enough Chars in the pool.

This is bad news for me. I don't want to see the characters twice !! Even if I can change him to someone else. I hope if there is option for that.
From what I saw, and I watched every let's play of xcom 2 on youtube, you can only use the character that you made, but since there is a lot of them in the game you basically have to make them all. The only thing is you can't always choose what there gonna be in the actual game, maybe they will be VIP's that you have to save, or capture, or engineer or scientists it's kind of random. For the soldiers I'm not sure if it's your choice or not.

What I'd like to know is if you can, when editing a soldier during a game, choose to load a character pool character over the existing character. Would save time if you want to always have the same soldiers, to restore one after they died. Or if you want all your characters to come from your pool.

Im confused by the character pool thing I was under the impression that players designed characters and had the option of adding them to the character pool which could then be accessed by anyone with the game like with Spore ( if anyone remembers that ) so you ended up with thousands of characters made by players all over

does anyone know if its possible to share your character pool with other people (like an addon/mod/etxra file)? Ill maybe design 3-5 people (who will die horribly i guess), but ill want more "unique" characters

We know players can import and export their creations, but I believe how has yet to be determined.

The character pool is unique to your game - but you can export a character and send it to a friend and they can then import it. Or, of course, you can share it online.

This information comes from Jake Solomon on the megapanel at Pax Prime.

(Edit: He doesn't say you can share online, just with friends. I am assuming though that it can be freely shared).

Beaglerush has just started streaming (as the embargo has lifted) and in his new game 3 out of the 4 starting characters (bypassing the tutorial) are characters from the pool - one is a random.

So it seems you can preload characters into the pool and have them appear from mission 1.

To ABSOLUTELY get ONLY Character Pool soldiers onto your game you have to set the Character Pool usage to "Pool Only". And you have to make sure you have a minimum of 18 soldiers on the pool, so you can have eight solfiers on your immediate staff (in the Armory) and you'll have ten soldiers you can immediately hire (if and when you have the funds for it).

As for making sure the game assigns your CP soldiers the classes you designated for 'em, you'll need to install this fantastic mod:

It's just a real shame that the Devs couldn't implement this on their game themselves and that a modder had to do it for them :P
