XCOM 2

Any way to pre-load without pre-purchasing on Steam?
So I pre-purchased on GMG and wonder if there is a trick to preload the game already? I know for example that when you d/l a game and then refund it it stays in library and it still updates even though you can't play it. So technically it should be possible. Any sneaky command to make that happen? :) Maybe a folder/registry change?

I just realized, couldn't I pre-purchase it on Steam and instantly refund it just to start the pre-load?

I have yet to refund a game on Steam, but how would that be any difference from simply pre-ordering it? I don't see why that'd somehow circumvent whatever lever it is that is currently stopping us from downloading the game.

Has preloading even started for this game? If you got it from GMG you can start preloading once you have your key from them and Steam begins preloading, but when you get your key from GMG is up to them.

I have it already pre-purchased on GMG, why would I want 2 copies of the game. I simply want to pre-load it already if that's possible to Steam pre-purchasers. When you pre-purchase on GMG you get your key only 1-2 days before release, sometimes even as late as ON release day, so depending on your internet speed and size of the game you end up losing a ton of game time.

What I mean is that refunding a pre-order on Steam doesn't allow you you to pre-load the game earlier than those who have not refunded it-- because I misinterpreted your question.

The pre-load date has yet to be announced, so we haven't the slightest idea of when we'll be able to download the game. It might happen before GMG send you your key, though. I never bought from them, so I wouldn't know.

From what i've heard, GMG sends keys during pre-load periods when there's one.

Oh I thought someone said that the preload has started already and it's about 40GB, maybe I mixed that up. But still, when the preload happens and GMG hasn't send out the keys yet, that method should very likely work, right? I have refunded games before and as long as you are below 2 hours it always worked.

If you're sure a refunded game still updates, I see no reason for it to not work.

Yeah, I refunded PayDay2 and still got updates to download until I finally uninstalled it.
Steam should just allow pre-load of any game. *shrug*

Pre-load will start, hopefully, 3rd or 2nd of the next week. Probably GMG will send the keys to pre-load, they did it with Fallout 4

Cool, nice to hear. I did purchase on GMG before but that was for games that were out already. In the FAQ it said that pre-order keys can be very late so I was scared. My Internet is not the worst but if XCOM 2 was indeed 40GB it would still take me a couple hours if that rumour was to be true. :)
all this over a couple of hours to download...seriously. if it is indeed 40GB i will have to wait 1.5 days to download and that's assuming no one else in the house is using any bandwidth. Most likely even if the game is 40GB the download will be compressed to about half that. Even Fallout 4 which is a much larger game wasn't that size of a download.

The game isnt even available for pre-load yet. It might not even be able to pre-load ever.

Ouch, how fast (or slow) is your internet that it takes you 1.5 days to download 40GB? I have 60mbit download (at primetime usually around 50 though)
