It could be but I doubt it would be like that if not for the Ethereals as we could see how similar the Muton and Muton Berserker were in EU/EW, but with no confirmation about whether that too was a female I'd say the Ethereals modified either the female part of them or just a portion of the Mutons to make a new sub-specie.
I really hope there are some lore or just small bits of random information about the aliens, I like those kinds of things and it makes it feel more real and alive.
Source for that? I cannot see why Jake would explicitly state the Berserker is female if all Mutons are.

The Beserker (with an S thankyou) is clearly a woman yes. It's an angry and irrational force that cannot be stopped once it gets going. ;)
