Warden Armor v Spider Armor
So was was excited to finally get warden armor, but after building it for the squad, I realized that spider armor is superior. Seriously (+20 defense / +1 mobility) beats out (+2 hp / +1 armor) every time in my opinion. Do you guys think that warden armor is even worth building?

I take far more casualties from explosives and other area effect weapons than direct fire, so defense doesn't benefit me much.

Warden Armor has 2 utility slots. Spider/Wraith armor only have 1.

More slots = more grenades
Is there any situation in which you won't want more grenades?

Warden,WAR,Wraith all have their uses.It's up to the individual to define what's going to be usefull for any particular soldier on any particular mission.

I dunno about that. I think extra slots only gives you extra items. Can't have more than 1 grenade, unless their job lets you, or something lets you. I have 2 slots in some of my gear, and I can only seem to have an extra grenade with Grenaders. I just use they extra slot for Medi-kits, or, maybe Story necessary items. Not going to say what item that is, but I'm sure people know what I am talking about. Can never have enough people with that story item on.

Look at it this way.With the extra slot you can now take a grenade and an item.Without the extra slot you have to choose one or the other.Utility items are pretty powerfull.

Having said that,spider/wraith/exo/WAR suits may provide the utility the soldier needs innately making the extra slot moot.

You also have to build each suit of spider one at a time with an elerium core, while warden armour you buy once and get an unlimited number.

Spider's useful on Rangers and Snipers, at least the way I use those classes. The single gear slot isn't a big deal for me by the time I can build those. Suit dodge plus PCS dodge plus grapple works well for my scouts and fast climbing for my DFA snipers.

Warden's better generally though, that third gear slot alone's worth having if nothing else.

Battle scanner, mimic beacon, special ammo, the utility armors. Losing the utility slot is an absolutely huge disadvantage in this game.

This is the key difference. Spider armour is a relatively expensive and specialised item. Warden armour is relatively cheap and generic upgrade.

its +20 dodge, not +20 defence. massive difference between those two things.

Pretty much this. It´s also the principle why rifles are always the first thing to be researched, they are needed for the rookies

I don´t think more than one Spider armor should be put on any team... 2 tops but no more than that. It really is about balanced teams being more flexible and thus overall better.

Dodge is RNG related and my Psi Op with Wraith armor didn´t last long in stage A of the final sequence. Bloody game...
