XCOM 2
What's the point of the UFO flying around the map?
I've already had an Avenger defense mission once, but every now and then I see a UFO flyincg across the hologlobe minding its own business.

What exactly is its point? I've literally crossed my path with it at least 3 times already and it doesn't give a sectoid's a** about me.

It's the game's way of telling you that you could be caught at any time, now that the hunter ship has been unleashed. It will (probably) get you at some point, but where it appears on the map has little (if anything) to do with its odds of catching you at any given point- from what I can tell from very limited experience.

they're busy probing people and turning cows inside out. let them be.
You can have multiple base defense missions if the UFO catch's you. It's not a scripted or one time thing.

I made a thread asking about multiple base defense missions. One guy replied and had screenshots of him have 2 in one game.

The point is that you have an indicator, which indicates, that you might get a base defense mission at some point in the near future. Or not, if you manage to automatically evade it.

Just had it 'hunt' me and successfully evaded.

I don't like this mechanic. First of all it makes little to no sense how we almost bump in mid-air several times before it SUDDENLY realizes it's the resistance ship and comes back to hunt me after like a month.

This sounds like a scene from Looney Tunes where the Avenger is Bugs Bunny and the UFO is Elmer Fudd.

Also I would like to have the option to not do evasive maneuvers and face it head-on. We've already established that the aliens want the Avenger back in one piece so they will only do an infantry attack on land. Let them come! Frostmourne hungers.

The UFO interception is a tad silly, yes. If the Avenger has such stealth that it manages to GTFO then how the hell it´s even spotted :steamfacepalm:

Better to not overthink it, it´s simply the game way of doing the base attack mission from the original, 2 and Apocalypse.

Just a question: has evasive manuevers ever worked for you? I've been shot down every time that happened.

I'm 50% on evasion attempts - 1 successful one failed

Evasion exists, the percentage... good question. While I had the dark event I would say 50% for me too (veteran difficulty). Evaded first time, attacked second (the event last for a set amount of days too)

Also was attacked after going to the black market and staying still. WAD? Dunno.

If it´s about planning, expect one base defense per Dark Event, and those are really annoying if you can´t snipe the post and GTFO fast.

...I feel distinctly unloved. Shot down 8 times. Out of 8.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
We are still calling them UFO?.

I wonder if some of the base improvements inflence the chance of being detected, or the level of Intel? If this were the case, it suggest another factor to consider in the Matrix of decision making? If it is just random - than other than an intersting mission is seems silly.

Wow, that's a damn fine point. I never thought about this. Obviously this is something they have to fix in the upcoming patch! :D

I don't mind too much, it's just that these things are usually silly in order to benefit gameplay, but no gameplay fun here either. The base defense from the prior games sounds much more fun. In XCOM2? 'Here you go, this square right here is your ship. Defend it.'

Had 2 UFO chases. Once shot down, once evaded.
